  Gentle stroll around the block in the sunshine. Checked in on the proteas. Saw a bird, ID says Australian King Parrot. Managed to catch only one pic before it flew off.

  Miles Franklin Award for literature Omar Musa wins this year’s Miles Franklin Award for literature. Omar wouldn’t know me. However, in the early ‘00’s I lived for a while in the home of Stella Wilkie, who was very involved in theatre. A frequent visitor was Helen Musa, Omar’s mum, theatre writer, sometimes accompanied by a young Omar.   Went into Aldi, picked up a couple of kiwifruit. Went to checkout, paid for them. At home I found I had three kiwifruit in my bag. One free kiwifruit! Now I feel like a criminal.👀

  Re new clothesline installed in my public housing laundry area. The one that’s too high for me to use. It’s gone through two levels of complaint, and the answer? Use another clothesline. You win some and lose them.

  I went for a walk around the block. I say walk, it was more of a hobble. Wonderful to get outside and in the sun. Unfortunately, 50 m from home, I tripped and almost fell. Saved myself by putting all my weight on my right (bad) foot. As a consequence, OMG Bad Foot is back, in full force! Please enjoy the first Proteas that are emerging.

  Hailed the grocery delivery guy with a very loud “Oi!” He was heading for the wrong block of units. Hadn’t responded to my first, very polite, calls. 🚛

  Laundry has been improved! Keypad on main door replaced; other door has been replaced but still waiting on keypad. Two brand new dryers, to replace one not working; other one working but screeching like a banshee. Washing machine, which has been vandalised with paint for the last several months, has been replaced, with a new one. Old table with protruding nails has been replaced, looks so much better. Also works as an actual table. It’s all go here!

  Mentioned to somebody this week that I’ve taken my son, daughter and daughter-in-law to High Tea at the Hyatt for my 40th. Person asked me what I’m going to do for my 80th. I know it’s in sight, just over a distant hill, but really?😲😳😂

  Some sadness this week, as someone I knew in the US has died. Her name was Mary. She was one of my professors, and became a dear friend. We often joked about being born in the same year. Last year, a mutual friend visited Canberra and brought me a card, which I posted here, with messages from people who knew me there, 25 years ago. Mary had Parkinsons, but wrote a few words, which I treasure. I’ll be thinking of Mary, her family, friends and colleagues on the day of her memorial gathering. Her...

  CMAG - stunning exhibition of quilts. The detail is astonishing. A couple of things caught my eye: detail of Australian flora; unique decorated pair of jeans. I say unique; I can’t imagine another pair the same 😁
