We're now actively seeing attrition on people contributing to the ActivityPub Trust & Safety taskforce because we've failed to secure funding to pay people to do the required work, which is to the detriment of the entire fediverse. It is not pretty or headline catching work, but it is necessary work that underpins the very social fabric of the fediverse. It's now been 205 days since I submitted an application with @nlnet@social.nlnet.nl to try to secure funding for this work. T...

Hey friends, so my friend's a musician called girli, and she's been producing music for 10 years, and she's now 250 sales away from a top-40 album position in the UK charts. You help her by ordering via her website: https://girlimusic.com/ Or the digital download: https://girlimusic.com/products/its-just-my-opinion-wav #music

RE: https://mastodon.social/@fediversereport/116409387146814121 A massive thanks to @laurenshof for actually attributing FediMod FIRES to me in his coverage. It means a lot to receive credit for my work!

Contrary to seemingly popular belief, FediMod FIRES and the protocol I created for it is so much more than just "blocklist synchronisation" It's designed to give moderation teams choice in what they pull from providers and how that's applied to their server. It's designed to give finer-grained moderation control than "silence or suspend" across a wide array of entities. Thinking of FediMod FIRES as just a blocklist synchronisation tool is like thinking of a comp...

Say what you want about the Bluesky/Attie/Graze situation, but let's be real: Graze wouldn't even be allowed to exist on the fediverse, especially when the dominant player (Mastodon) has 10x or 100x the funding of everyone else and whilst they could implement custom feeds they've been deciding not to. If memory serves, @newsmast received push back on attempting to bring custom feeds to the fediverse back in 2024. Some servers opted to run forks to get them, and a whole...

This is just kinda fucking sad:

Friendly reminder: last year I built FediMod FIRES, a protocol and reference server implementation for sharing moderation data. I haven't yet been able to get anyone to adopt it or even signal intent to adopt. But regularly I see people complaining about the lack of data sharing when it comes to moderation, especially for combating spam, scams, and harassment. The tool is there, please use it! Whilst I'm not actively working on FediMod FIRES this quarter, I did apply in November for a...

I'm super hyped to announce that Bluesky Socal PBC has given me a grant to work on the Federated Credential Management (or FedCM) standards to make them really work for all decentralized web applications. This is why I stepped up to be an Invited Expert with the W3C FedID Working Group earlier in the year. The missing part at that time was "how do I fund this work?" so I'm super happy that Bluesky Social PBC really came through with a grant to fund this work....

Fantastic news! We've reached 1 million votes! But please keep sharing and voting in case some votes are invalid! EU citizens, please sign this petition to ban so-called "conversion therapy" in the EU. It's a practice that's extremely harmful towards LGBTQ+ people. The site is a little slow, but keep trying! https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home It's already banned in some countries but we need a EU wide ban! We now have eight co...

You know @mastodonmigration, every time you go off about AT Protocol, and I have to spend time answering you, that means I have less time to actively work on things like the ActivityPub specifications or FEPs for things like trust and safety, because I'm busy correcting your bullshit. Edit: we're now at like, several hours worth of my time, because you're trying to have bullshit debates about protocols which really don't serve anyone. As you said recently, you h...

So I was getting really misleading code coverage results from c8 / tsx in the tests for @hollo, so after some discussion, we decided to migrate to vitest, and now we have accurate code coverage output! But my gosh that was a sizeable chunk of work! https://github.com/fedify-dev/hollo/pull/154

So I just realised that the "tech princess" link on my website was broken, after I made my instagram disappear. Anyway, here's the back story: I was going to React Day Berlin in November 2019, and I was so bored of going to tech conferences in jeans and a t-shirt, and wanted to be *hyper* femme, so I bought a huge ballgown and wore that to the conference. I also tried to encourage some other femmes to join me, but didn't have much luck. It was literally to poke fun at the fac...
