  Something crawled up my pants and bit the heck out of my calf while i was gardening today. ouch then and itch now. But mustard and kale seedlings are out with fresh compost and some fertilizer in the kitchen garden. I’ll add mulch after this week’s rain. On the tropical terrace I’ve added ajuga, acidanthera, and some cyclamen coum i started from seed 2 or 3 years ago. Still lots to get in the ground, but that’s enough for today. #gardening

  The rains appear to have stopped so early this year that the water barrels didn’t have time to fill between last frost and water restrictions. And there’s no snowpack. It’s gonna be a rough one. #gardening

  It feels weird to me how cautious people are about ticks. I might spend a little time researching how out of step my attitude is with the evidence now that ticks are becoming more prevalent where i live now. I grew up on farm in North Carolina and checking for and removing ticks was something we did basically every night in summer. I’ve had hundreds of tick bites - once i stepped in a deer tick nest and got more than a hundred in a day. I knew lots of people who got Rocky Mountain spotted feve...

  The extent to which shit we put in space is for direct and indirect military reasons is hard to get across to the average space nerd. I wish it weren’t so, but it’s for real and part of why nobody is doing jack about the satellite situation except writing whitepapers and experimenting with disabling other satellites.

  One of the things travel reminds me of is how many people spend such an incredible amount of their time in poorly ventilated spaces. Do you have any idea how much better you'll feel and think and sleep if you live in rooms with CO2 400-600ppm instead of 800-3000ppm? Also, have you ever tracked the CO2 in your car? You're probably doing something incredibly dangerous with remarkably reduced cognitive capacity.

  Even when Canadian governments do the right thing, they do it as badly as possible. It is infuriating. Today, BC announced that we’re going to stop doing time changes (good) but stay on DST (bad).
