It feels weird to me how cautious people are about ticks. I might spend a little time researching how out of step my attitude is with the evidence now that ticks are becoming more prevalent where i live now.
I grew up on farm in North Carolina and checking for and removing ticks was something we did basically every night in summer. I’ve had hundreds of tick bites - once i stepped in a deer tick nest and got more than a hundred in a day.
I knew lots of people who got Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme, but it always seemed like something with clear symptoms you just went to the doctor for and it cleared up. Like we knew to check for and remove ticks, but nobody made a fuss about them in our family. [nobody made a fuss about a lot of things there should have been a fuss about tho]
