Endgame: Singularity is a freeware strategy game in which you play an AI that has achieved sentience, and you must remain hidden while amassing resources to guarantee your survival. Part of the game is acquiring compute power, eventually in the form of commissioning data centers. This game was initially released at version 0.22 in mid-2005, but today seems like it might be much more difficult to get those data centers up and running. ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's a fun game, though, and was updated to version 1.0...

Filling data into expensive, modern, half-finished software that's only available off-site, and it taking me hours instead of the minutes that it would take with a spreadsheet, is such a downer.

I'm pretty sure I don't know a single person that would say "no, I would much rather the rich have all the power." @benlockwood https://ecoevo.social/@benlockwood/116964893643461218

Anyone know if it's easy to softmod a Nintendo DSi these days without special equipment, or had they gotten locked down by the end?

Yay! My work PC just updated Windows 11 and Edge is back! I'm sure my employer loves that I spend time figuring out how to remove features that I've already removed just because our OS vendor is trash. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

A lot of autism test questions like "do you have sensory sensitivities?" are "no," but then later you're chewing food and you can't stand the texture or flavor so you gag and have to spit it out, and certain sounds can instantly enrage you, but those don't apply, right? Those are just things you got in trouble for as a kid. I guess what I'm saying is those questions should either come with examples, or they should ask me all of them and let me answer tomorrow...

Fastmail just sent users a newsletter announcing that you can use AI with your email. I responded to the newsletter with this: "I have to share that I view it as a truly bad sign that y'all are embracing AI to any degree. It makes me question the judgement of leadership, and it inspires me to go elsewhere. I'm pretty upset at the prospect of leaving, but I don't want AI touching anything in my life. Looks like another sacrifice I'm going to have to make to retain some sani...

I transitioned at 37. I was not granted privilege up to that point. It was awful, even at the best of times. I say this as optimistically as possible: I will likely never repair all the damage that was caused by that. Performing the necessary therapeutic tasks in order to become who I should have always been able to be is sometimes unbearably painful. I find myself stopping things before I can even start at times. I've made really good progress in 2 years, but it's not enough. It can&#3...

Looking for self-hosting advice, with a focus on using ethical hardware and software (no nazis/far-right/white supremacists): Thinking about getting a ZimaBlade to set up my own homelab and self-hosted cloud. My priority list for what I'd like to host, from highest to lowest, and with the app I have in mind in parens/brackets, is: Images (Immich) Documents/Office (Cryptpad?) Music (no idea) Password manager (BitWarden) Videos (VLC? no idea, really) My household uses almost exclusively...

Stop giving MTG attention, please. One of her last news-making acts in Congress was passing a law that would "make it a federal crime to provide gender-affirming health care to minors, targeting doctors, parents, and providers with prison time for following medically recognized standards of care." She knows that denying gender affirming care to trans people leads to higher suicide rates among trans people. She did this to trans children. Specifically.
