  @thefaj I thought about this a lot. I just don't see what value Apple is providing to justify 30% of the creator's revenue. If you sign up on mobile Safari Apple doesn't get anything. I also suspect that no one finds the Patreon app in the app store and signing up to support a creator without first knowing about the creator and Patreon, so Apple isn't providing any value there either.

  Today I learned that OpenAI "credits" expire after 1 year. I didn't lose much money, but it is very shitty to not even send an email notifying you in advance that your credits will expire.

  Yesterday's blackout in Portugal was really eye opening. Here are a few random thoughts. I am thankful that my home wifi is on a battery that lasts at least a day.   @caseyliss I recently got into selfhosting. I bought a Beelink mini NAS. It has slots for 6 SSDs. You can use 5 for storage and 1 for the operating system. I use TrueNAS, it has been smooth so far.   Ever since Claude started to get aggressive with their rate limiting I started experimenting with OpenCode (https://opencode.ai) specifically using MiniMax 2.5 on OpenRouter (https://openrouter.ai/minimax/minimax-m2.5). It is surprisingly good. It makes me excited for when I can get a Mac Studio Ultra for a reasonable price and load a large model to have everything running local. It might be awhile before that is reasonable though.

  I was chatting with Gemini about mobile ads and when I asked it a question about interstitial (which it brought up earlier in the conversation), it said, "This is for informational purposes only.
