  All this discourse about ads on websites has me thinking, what is a sustainable way of upkeeping websites? Like maintaining the domain name registration, paying for the server space unless it's self-hosted, etc. Ads are clearly not a good solution, because they're super distracting and sometimes they promote bad things (like gambling websites) or are AI slop. But the whole model of "please donate or become a patron if you like this website" might not be sustainable if there...

  [💙M] Now that I've had some proper time with Vampire Survivors, I will say, These kind of "survivor" games (you can't make me call them bullet hell or even "bullet heaven") are good for a rush of dopamine and the feeling of gradually becoming a god of destruction. But these games are very much the opposite of "hardcore" game design and if you want gameplay that is very engaging, look elsewhere.

  Torrents aren't just for piracy! I've seen software devs and film distributors use torrents to distribute their works so that the work isn't all crunched onto a single central server.

  tbh, there's already a crapton of negativity in gaming communities and while we can't eliminate it or tell people how to feel or how to express it, we just choose to pick our battles and try to avoid lines of discussion that aren't healthy or productive for us, especially if it isn't for games we're fixated on in the first place.

  I often think about how money only has value because The National Goverment Says So, then subsequently think of the scene in Shin Megami Tensei I where you get yeeted 30 years into the future and find that your yen is now useless because the Japanese government got deleted, forcing you to use the shiny new macca currency instead.

  The latest Discord outage makes us wish there was something like IRC but with native support for link embeds. Ain't nobody gonna click a link without an embed preview in 2026, at least in a large community, out of fear it could be gore or a screamer prank or whatever.

  Here is a new rule we propose: If you play a video from Tiktok or a Tiktok-like (YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and yes even Loops) and repeat it more than 3 times in a row with the audio coming from your phone speakers, and anyone else hears it, each person who was exposed should be entitled to a compensation equal to the number of times you looped it times two.
