  Mastodon is the right place for me to say this. FOSS software usually comes out with documentation that assumes too much. I have installed FreeBSD and Linux and managed mail servers and all kinds of online stuff. But I brute force through it, where most people haven't the time to experiment. Error messages never give enough information, you have to go look at the line number, then figure out what happened. People don't have than kind of time! Say what's wrong AND how to fix it.

  At first I though computers were evil, something man wasn't supposed to mess with. Then I bought a TRS-80 and programmed in BASIC and then Z80 assembly language. In a job, I graduated to DEC minicomputers, RT-11, RMS-11 and even had to do some Fortran. I did everything in C for the web. But now I think computers are evil again, when used for certain things that deplete resources and pollute the planet.

  What do we want? Universal health insurance that covers life-threatening diseases (cardio, cancer...) 100% and mostly all medical expenses for the rest. Basic income that would reduce crime committed, not for fun, but to feed a family Safe shelter for all. When do we want it? It's complicated.

  LinkedIn is such BS. My occupation is lisyted as retired, my company name "Retired FTW". All the AI compute couldn't figure this out? Absurd. And it offered to rewrite it using AI (but you have to be a paid user).

  I need your help about #autism : Can one ask if someone is on the spectrum, is that even a correct way to express this? I'm serious, please no replies that are not helpful.   After tiring of seeing apps that can't be updated and will soon stop working on my Apple Macbook Air 11" from 2011 recently, I tested some #Linux distros. I ended up with Zorin, after trying to install ElementryOS, Ubuntu, Debian. The wifi card in the Macbook didn't work. It connected, then froze if used. I gambled on Panda Wireless Adaptateur USB Ultra WiFi (b/g/n) 150 Mbps Wireless-N 2,4 GHz . Plugged it in and it wasn't recognized. But fiddling, rebooting, it...

  I don't hate #AI, but I also don't talk to it like it was a person. I had a hardware problem (Apple display). I tried searching over 20 minutes or so. I even watched a couple of videos, though to solve a problem with instructions, video with poor quality audio doesn't help. I prefer text with the steps. So I went to Gemini, stated the issue, noting the memory resets I had already tried. Gemini came up with a solution I did not find via searches.

I really like when a tv series shows someone cooking in an episode.   Apple's planned obsolesence is infuriating. I have a perfectly good 13 year old Macbook Air, new SSD and battery. I'm wondering if it's possible to install #Linux on it? Linux versions must be more tolerant of hardware, but I'm not sure it's possible to install it. EDIT: I keep replying to share status (mute me if you must), but a big thanks to all of those who gave a shout, I've read each one and appreciate. But then, that's Mastodon!

  If you play guitar and want to get better, Chord Chemisty by Ted Greene (RIP) is a good investment. It's not like those lame chord "encyclopedias" that have the same chord 12 times. All the chords in it are in one of two keys, E or A. I met Ted and was able to take one lesson before I got a job and had to quit. It's how he knew what I was into.
