in newest chromium major version surprises: 151 needs golang to build, of course it does so via a bundled binary copy of the compiler in the tree and determines the path and executes it through a cursed python script fix: replace function that returns the arch name in the script (it handles it for 2 archs) with one that returns "unknown", create the path it expects with linux-unknown, symlink /usr/bin/go in there i wonder why google always does these things in the most terrible way p...

i'll be giving away a power mac g5 (dualcore 2.3GHz PCI-E, comes with 16GB RAM but lately i could only get 4 to register - probably some contacts issue that is likely fixable, as it started happening after not booting it for a while - and no HDD) as well as a dual 1.25GHz power mac G4 MDD (should be okay but untested for a while, no HDD, no GPU) and a powerbook G4 15" 2004 (with radeon 9600, one RAM slot dead, and a row of keys on the keyboard does not work presumably due to corrosion...

currently trying to update opencv in chimera to the new 5.x branch and lol so they removed some component from the dnn (neural network shit) module but since some code from that was cross-used in other stuff (some tensorflow/onnx i/o shitfuckery i don't care about) they left in a bunch of code generated by protobuf as a part of the "cleanup" which has resulted in opencv 5 being unbuildable unless you have a particular old version of protobuf the files were generated with, because...

hot take: dbus is mostly just kinda okay and not some kind of terrible evil thing that must be eliminated sure it's a bit janky and the reference libdbus library to work with it is kinda ass (better ones exist now) but given when it was created it's not unusual and also it's not some kind of massive blocker that would warrant total replacement i'm fairly convinced that 95% of dbus hate mostly stems from the session bus formerly being launched with desktop, noone really understa...

we watched the original terminator (the one from '84) tonight as my girlfriend hasn't seen it even though everyone likes the sequel more i don't really agree, i think the original is the one that holds up better and is the one that's really worth having seen at least once like the sequel is not bad but i guess i don't care that much for big blockbuster stuff while i enjoy compact movies that make good use of low to moderate budgets (like, the sequel was made with like 20 ti...

psa for anyone using qt6 with llvm 22 and libc++ so if you try to build qt6 (any version) with clang22 and libcxx, you will notice the tests tst_collections and tst_qmap failing the code that is failing specifically is something like ``` QMultiMap<int, T> qm; qm.insert(1, val1); qm.insert(1, val2); assert(qm.value(1) == val2); // assume .value(key) always returns most recently inserted value, but it does not in practice ``` the reason for this is that QMultiMap uses plain old std::...

3d video games have looked good since at least the mid-late 90s and trying to chase photorealism instead of stylization and working with limitations is stupid and the latter is always strictly better because it at least shows that you have your own idea of aesthetic and art

i have a feeling that everyone who is arguing about LLMs in the sense of stuff like productivity, quality of the output, performance or functionality of generated code, largely even licensing or whatnot is kinda missing the point even if LLMs generated the best code in the world, i would not be using them even if LLMs gave me the biggest ever productivity boost i would not be using them even if the output was clean copyright-wise and fully original, i would still not be using them i can'...
