we watched the original terminator (the one from '84) tonight as my girlfriend hasn't seen it
even though everyone likes the sequel more i don't really agree, i think the original is the one that holds up better and is the one that's really worth having seen at least once
like the sequel is not bad but i guess i don't care that much for big blockbuster stuff while i enjoy compact movies that make good use of low to moderate budgets (like, the sequel was made with like 20 times the money) and t1 is super good for what it is, you get the atmosphere and some great visuals with no cg and great directing and cinematography and a villain that really feels like an indestructible force that cannot be stopped
so while the original is imo essential, none of the following stuff is, james cameron peaked with what was basically his debut

@q66@gts.q66.moe fair position to have, although for me, I like both Is the same situation as with Alien and Aliens: first one a terror movie, and the second an action one, both emblematic (and all movies after it being redundant*) Definitely a great movie with the tight budget they had, indeed *I'm still thinking that Terminator: Salvation and Aliens 3 could have been great if X things were different, but that goes to a separate thread to be talked one day
