  ‘Island in the Sea of Time’ by S. M. Stirling is the first book in a trilogy and an entirely new sub-genre in the Alternate History sphere about an entire community, and all their stuff, (in this case Nantucket) being physically transported to a different point in time (the bronze age). I’m really glad that this idea inspired an entire sub-genre because it’s a good idea and this book sucks.   It’s rude to comment on someone’s appearance unprompted but so much of this movie (I’m currently watching) is built around showing off the leads figure I feel safe in saying she doesn’t have one, she has the body of a malnourished twelve-year-old. She looks better the more clothes she wears, she looks best during the fight scenes when wearing clothes baggy enough to hide pads. It gave me weird flashbacks to being a tween witnessing the disconnect between the anorexic bodies the fashion industry...

  There’s an argument to be made that the last progressive American President was Richard Milhous Nixon. Partially this is a fun argument to make because of the look of confused anger on older liberals’ face, but also because it’s kind of true. He created the EPA, OSHA, the Clean Air Act. He argued for health care reform, for the expansion of Medicare, Medicaid, the creation of an employer mandate and a public option. He argued for a four day work week.

  I once had the idea to combine a really crunchy equipment/crafting with a skill-based loot system, one where you would have to spend time and rolls on the battlefield pulling parts from enemy mechs. Though it could easily take a turn towards body horror if it's a #ttrpg wherein the PCs are cyborgs. Or flesh golems.

  From time to time you'll run into a movie with that one scene that no one ever needs to describe or specify, they can just call it "that one scene". "What scene?" "If you've seen the movie you'll know which scene." I'm thinking of creating a list of such #movies; 'Re-Animator' is an obvious inclusion but I'm not sure about anything else. Does 'Blue Velvet' have as clear of an entry? I could use some help with this. Suggestions...

  'Batwoman' is the current TV show playing as background noise in my life and I have to say that Rachel Skarsten's Alice in the most interesting character in the series continuing the long tradition of Bats being overshadowed by their villains. It doesn't help that I don't think Ruby Rose is a good actor. I think she's the weakest part of the entire cast... which you never want to be able to say about your lead.

  Apparently when Michael Crichton died he, like most writers, left behind notes and outlines for books he never got around to writing. One of these idea was handed to James Patterson to finish. Patterson. A man whose modus operandi for more than a decade has been to make an outline then hand it to someone else to do the writing. We're never going to know who actually wrote 'Eruption'. #books

  ‘The Two-Bear Mambo’ by Joe Lansdale is the third Hap & Leonard book and the last to be adapted in the (very good) television series making it our last chance to compare the two. But thanks to some time travel nonsense he returns to the same day he left so he’s the only one who knows that he was even gone, let alone for how long.
