Battery warranty 8 years. Battery replacement costs estimated today:ca. 25k, half of the overall value. I wonder how it will look like in ca. 10 years time, also whether then newer and better batteries can be retrofitted in these cars. #EV

Januarverkäufe von Elektroautos: 16%. Im Juni: 36%. Die größten Marken hier: BYD und Tesla. VW hat 2025 20,6% weniger verkauft, und schon im Jahr zuvor 16,8% als 2023.   In theory, a hosting provider has a SLA to give our company a new host in less than an hour, if one fails. (something with 384 GB of RAM etc.) But I want to add another one to an existing cluster, they may need 7 to 10 business days. It isn't a small provider, it is one of the bigger ones in Europe. If that is a sign how the whole industry struggles just to satisfy normal demand because of "AI" datacentres... It all feels completely bonkers at the moment. #SysAdmi...

  The company I work for had outages last week. Today it is Australia's biggest mobile network. Last month was another telco. Cloudflare had issues, Github.. well, picking a few. One problem with IT is that one cannot check the quality like you do when one shapes a wheel. If it isn't round you will find out soon. This makes it possible to ignore staff, making decisions which lower the quality etc. And one can "save" a lot. Until it falls apart. #SysAdmin

  Lazy journalism? Two examples today, found by us. 1. One guy from the country "We are sick of being lied to." Obvious question: what are these lies you referring to? 2. Some guy claims that singles are being robbed of their human rights. Obvious question: Which human rights do you mean? None of these questions were asked.   In Australien stellt Labor die Regierung. Nach langem Zögern implementieren sie eine Steuergesetzänderung, die Spekulation mit Wohneigentum erschwert. Etwas für die Allgemeinheit durchaus Positives. Könnt Ihr mit schönem Gruss an die SPD in Deutschland schicken. Als Ansporn. Hier ist auch nicht alles Gold, was glänzt.   @abuerkl Ich hoffe, Dir geht es gut. Ich habe übrigens den zweiten Band Deines "Haus der Freundinnen" gelesen, welchen ich gut und interessant fand. Von Wien und Österreich etc. habe ich tatsächlich nur begrenzt Ahnung. War auch nie da. Nach dem 3. Hatte ich den Doppelband 1+2 gekauft und den ersten gelesen, danach erst mal aus der Hand gelegt - der Zeitsprung schien mir in dem Moment zu gross, um gleich weiter zu lesen.   46% of the oil goes into road transport as fuel, as diesel and petrol. The origin and the processing is highly concentrated. A lot of that money goes to sheiks and Putin and Exxon and Shell. With running an electric car or reducing the use of a car all together, you don't support them and their extraordinary profits to the same degree. Reducing plastic use (15% of oil use) is another factor. Surely, there are environmental benefits as well.

  Nachts um eins. #SysAdmin wach und macht sich Gedanken. Dienstag geht es in den Urlaub und es gibt viel zu tun.   Colleague on April Fools Day: Football World Cup cancelled. Sadly, it isn't true. From 48 teams (2 weeks warm up before something really happens), a "Peace Prize" for Trump to the feeling it is a rerun of the 1936 Olympics.. Maybe players should not go. No point in that circus. Players are run like machines anyway, football around the clock, where "the best team" is the one with an expensive squad that can afford to rest its stars more often.

  Während es für gewöhnlich hier in #Melbourne gegen 5 nachmittags am wärmsten ist - z.B. gestern bei 28 Grad, ist das heute anders. Um 2 warfen es wieder knapp 28 Grad, ich sah morgens schon Leute am Strand. Jetzt werden sie weg sein, es sind nur noch 20 Grad, um halb fünf. Der Grund: Statt aus dem warmen Norden kommt der Wind jetzt aus südlichen Richtungen, von der Antarktis.
