Somebody on here recommended watching The Diplomat. So I'm trying it out again. And I just wish I could turn off the part of my brain comparing this version of reality. Competence. To reality.

There is a discontent and yearning to get things out of the political mud on here. If you live in NE Seattle, guess what. You have *two* races where you can make that happen. - Nilu Jenks for Seattle City Council District 5 - Ron Davis for State LD 46 The challenge is people don't vote for down ballots and primaries. They just sit it out. I know you, reading this will vote. That's just who I know on here. So remind your friends and family. Get those ballots filled out and turned in!

Given all the nonsense, it is a bit amazing to me that no US adversary has been testing US military commitment out at the edges. If there was any little piece of US- controlled territory I'd been wanting to break loose, I'm imagining this is the time. From reading the news the US military hasn't been in this much disarray and with this low morale since before WW2.

I must gather that Lindsay Graham passed. I have not looked at news yet. I've just seen many many posts about some people being too awful to mourn and then something about him. I raise my cup of coffee to you, my fellow Fedizen, and may this warm our hearts this morning. At the very least, the living world is a slightly better place.

#linux long shot I'm running Pop OS so Ubuntu. I installed COSMOS, then GNOME. I was able to easily switch to GNOME once it was installed. But, since that switch, I haven't seen the gear to the lower right on the login tile to select desktop environment. Then I installed Cinnamon. Still no gear. Is there a configuration file I should check or something? I've not had luck searching the web for "ubuntu desktop environment selection thing not visible"

#Seattle If you have the ability to take tomorrow afternoon off, I hope to see you at Cal Anderson Park at 12 noon for the #Mayday march. It's a good time to get in the streets with a bunch of other people and make some noise. #PROTEC sibs: We are meeting at the old pump station. #union #unions

#Seattle and surrounding towns: Please fill out this #SoundTransit survey. It took me about three minutes, even including dealing with the phone-unfriendly format. https://soundtransit.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d7jkaU59BHOdblY It's a little maddening that a survey like this might be very important but that's how this goes. Please boost and share to your #transit riding folk.

Most of the time I see #comics now, what is most visible is the telltales that almost yell when they were drawn. But not #LoveAndRocketsComic. This is over 40 years old but the art is still so far away from anything else it feels like it could be a current (and still very weird - to me) comic. #LatinxArt

So if anyone is in NE #Seattle, "Vickie" with the email address "ravennaneighborhood@gmail.com" blasted out text msgs saying Ravenna-Eckstein will be converted to 5 story buildings ... because of the upzone. Scared the pants off my neighbor. So ... that's a new level of gross by our NIMBY contingent. I'm guessing this was the same bunch of realtors in Bellevue + the owners of Dunn Lumber that have been fighting any attempt to allow density in...

I think many folks here know Google is locking down side-loaded apps. So, just in case it matters to say, I'm not following YT links after that. Life is too short and full of frustrations to deal with the liquified garbage that is the YT user experience. NewPipe did link to a pretty involved set of steps for a work around Google Play. See short and frustration above. I'm not that kind of mobile phone user.

Dave Alvarado has a good thread started about how harassment works so well on here. It's a good read if you don't know about PoC noping the F outta here after just a few hours of it. And it also has brought out the freezepeach people - a sad reminder to me that the problems with the Fedi are mechanical (no reply control) but also cultural. I have lost some hope the cultural part will ever change.

#Seattle Reminder: Clear your calendar for 28 March #NOKINGS The main event will be at Cal Anderson but there will be smaller events throughout the region. We'll probably go to one of those. The big march is great but lots of little marches is a great tactic against Right wing disruption and garbage reporting.

For those reading Annalee Newitz' "Automatic Noodle", please just skip past the generating-power-from-a-turbine-in-a -flowing-sewer idea. One thing you don't ever ever want to do is obstruct or slow down flowing water (The turd herders call it "mixed liquor". No. Really.) in a sewer. The big ones generally have *just* enough slope to keep everything moving gently along when flowing full. Slow it down further and the fluid level will rise abov...
