Synth people! Examples of classic smooth 80's (ish) synth sounds for solos, bonus points for pointers on type of synth and ques for sound design (not that I'm greedy, I just suck at making synth sounds) 😂 #MusicProduction #Synth #LinuxAudio

It’s hard to predict what will happen to the Linux structure after Linux Thorvalds AI-comments: will we have a non-AI Linux fork, will people live with it or will people move to BSD?

I have a hard time, whenever people go too deep into the male/female focused gendertalk, because it seems to always be excluding for those who doesn’t fit in a two gender world. And I’m pretty sure, that if we actually managed to create a world where the gender you were assigned at birth didn’t control as much as it do now, more people could become a different - more natural - version of themselves, which wasn’t pre-defined by society. But how do we do that?

The smallest music production setup I have is the AKAI Force with a pair of Genelec 8020. Genelec 8020 was my first pair of studio monitors (after having used a pair of Jamo HiFi speakers the first couple of years), and they still do a decent job of small tasks or for reference. They are a little heavy in the lower midrange, but otherwise good for the size. I have several pairs as I have used them for site specific sound design in the theatre, for which they are perfect (and discrete looking).

I use the summer to fill a couple of gaps in my native Linux plugin collection. I have been wanting a collection of different effects, which could compliment the Bitwig native selection. I chose the Uhbik 2 collection from U-he, and they haven’t disappointed yet! This will be a really nice option for my “when stuck, browse some presets”-method. I hoped the reverb plugin could give me a good plate sound, but it doesn’t, the verbs and early reflections sound good though! #LinuxAudio

Language-question for releasing music: Most of my old recordings are with danish lyrics, and I would like to share them online like i did on @mirlo@musician.social with my childrens music already. It seems odd to upload danish music to an english platform and use an english description, when the lyrics are only danish. My Faircamp site is all danish, so it's not that useable by people not speaking danish. People writing music with lyrics in other languages, what do you do? Listeners, wha...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@rekkerd/116294951898135414 If you are looking to move to Linux for #MusicProduction, there is a really great crossgrade offer right now for Bitwig. I used this I the fall when I made the switch. Reaper, Ardour, Harrison Mixbus and others will also be great options. #linuxaudio

RE: https://uddannelse.social/@mosgaard/116568665255369682 Oh wow, this thread really took off! Over 300 interactions, and I'm just so grateful to be able to share loose thoughts like this on Fedi, and have people come up with thoughtful questions and great suggestions. Fedi is the place for me, no doubt! Thanks!

Work in progres! I was trying out working in grid-mode in #bitwig, and it’s not really my thing. I get stuck and can’t see the progression like I’m used to. I’m a very visual person, and sound is no different, and it’s much easier for me to see and visualize what’s going on or what should be going on in arrangermode. I’m not closed to finished, it needs more layers, fx and transitions. But I like the vibe. Disclaimer: Dirty mix on headphones, might not translate well. #LinuxAudio

#MusicProduction thread incomming: One of the things that challenges me in Bitwig Studio, is how much it’s build for an electronic music workflow, and I’m never trained in (or have a lot of experience with) electronic music. You might think a DAW is a DAW, but it really isn’t. I was educated in music most often played on traditional instruments in styles like jazz, pop and rock. And since this is 20 years ago, electronic music production wasn’t a thing at all at the academy of music.

#DanmarkSk...

I don’t see many talking about it, but GeForce Now makes it so easy to play a huge selection of games on Linux. The app is still in beta but works fine and you can easily use a game controller. You will need a subscription to get the best experience, but you can get started for free. This solves all the “can you play this and that on Linux”, which is nice if you have a kid playing something like Fortnite or Rocket League, you want on a Linux pc. https://www.nvidia.com/da-dk/geforce-now/downloa...

One of my (now less) trusty Neumann KH 120 is not turning on, at all. This should be within the guarantee, but it's still one of those things, it's really hard to replace in a studio. I have other speakers, but working on a secondary reference pair, is simply not the same. Back to the headphones I guess.

If you have ever wanted a silent Bluetooth keyboard for your computer, all you need is to spill a Fanta into the keyboard and let it dry. The keys might be a little sticky and not always responding, but they are dead silent! #ProTip

Hey #LinuxAudio I’m curious if someone has given the new Wayland Native VST3 translation layer “Arthur” a spin? It’s still very new, and I have a hard time understanding what I would actually be installing if I tried, since I don’t understand the technical side of things. https://github.com/danny1marshall1587-maker/arthur-translation-layer

RE: https://ravenation.club/@CCirco/116460048706658755 Tonight I’ll let loose my new “electronic music” alter ego: Rural Moose This is the result of me fooling around with Linux for music production, and it was a no-brainer to finally join the #Bonkwave movement, which I have enjoyed following on Fedi! Tonight there will be a release event but you can already now hear my take on the sample challenge. Please give a warm welcome to The Linux Bonk: https://music.bonkwave.org/the-four-seasons-o...

This was such a good experience being part of the #Bonkwave release party. Such a fun and welcoming community, I love how different the tunes are, and how good people are at finding good things to say about the different tunes, to keep the chat fun and also supportive of the artists. I’ll be back, no doubt! Thanks to all the great people behind this! I would tag you, but I don’t want to forget someone putting in time and effort to create this nice community. It all matters!

@Pepijn I looks like a very meaningful way to reorganize one’s plates. I should remember to say, that I’ll be with my band in Ribe the 15th of August this Year! https://www.ribekunstmuseum.dk/aktuelt/kalender/familiefestival-2026

Remember to keep writing vendors and letting them know that we are a lot of Music producers, sound designers, composers, mixers, mastering engineers and all the other great DAW users who already switched to Linux, are in the middle of the switch or are activily searching for a way to make the jump!
