That I won't listen to nazis, fascists, & their collaborators, does not mean I won't listen to anyone with different opinions/beliefs/whatever. I don't agree with nearly anyone about everything, and get along fine with most of them anyway, even some I disagree with about a lot of shit. But there are limits to that shit - if you start advocating for genocide, spewing racist bullshit, destroying the environment, colonizing whatever place/people, etc.? You just aren't worth li...

Y'know who you don't hear about leaking confidential client information much? Sex workers. Who have been doing confidentiality and keeping client's secrets as well or better than near every other industry, since before those industries actually existed.

Tangent; I've mentioned being schizo here a few times, I don't often go into much detail about it, but, it's been one of if not the single most significant things impacting who I am as a person - I often describe my experience of it as... I had a first psychotic episode, and since then, it's just never stopped - the magnitude varies, but, there's always some static from it, minor hallucinations, the voices are sometimes muffled but never - *ever* - gone; but that first epis...

Immigrants do not lower wages. Immigrants are usually in a much worse position to bargain for or demand fair wages. Your boss *exploits* that to pay them less - and then *exploits* you by threatening to replace you with an immigrant if you don't accept lower pay. At no point did the immigrant do fucking anything to you, your job, or your wages. Your boss is fucking BOTH OF YOU over, for their own benefit. This is less a 'too many immigrants' problem, more 'we've normalized...

If The US government condemns the genocide of Palestinians, it invites uncomfortable questions about itself. The US is about 57% white, and less than 1% american indian, alaskan native, and native hawaiian/pacific islander (combined). So any condemnation of Israel, or support of Palestinians - or, Palestine as a state - needs to be done very carefully (From the US state's perspective), For the same reason the Nuremburg Trials had to reject a tu quoque defense.

If the slopbots are so useful, why are people putting so much effort into trying to convince people like me they're useful, rather than just doing useful things with them?

Population decline is, generally, good for: - Working-age, working-class humans (Increases the value and reduces the supply of labour) - The environment (less humans -> less of the messes we cause) It is generally bad for: - Capitalists (fewer workers -> labour is more expensive) - The Economy™ (If GDP per capita doesn't climb faster than population falls, then number go down! oh no!) - Elders who need care (more old people needing care per person providing it.)

Since Air Conditioning is in the Discourse lately; Keep in mind if you're poining to pre-modern (pre-AC) people living in a very hot area (tropical forests, deserts, both of which people have lived in for millenia) - The ways people survive in those conditions often came down to clothing, architectural designs, and even location choices, tailored for surviving in those climates, specifically - things that most modern western cities *can not* replicate without a massive rebuilding effort.

-.- Love having to get groped by the TSA Every. Single. Fucking. Flight. I. Take. No additional problems though. And the agent wasn't a creep about it this time.

Managed to get to, and back from, MN and only got the usual TSA SA stuff; and a weird new problem with them not being able to scan my ID. Like, I had to go through three differnt TSA checkpoints, and *none* of the ID scans worked, despite the ID being less than a year old.

If you cannot afford a home, you are not "middle class". So drop the petit-bourgeoisie bullshit, and develop some class solidarity with your actual fucking peers.

Teaching "AI Literacy" is a bad idea. We need to be ripping big tech companies *out* of schools, not adding more of their bullshit to curricula.

To get a CS/Software Engineer/etc. sort of degree, it should be mandatory to write at least 1 significant program that compiles for, and runs and works reasonably well on, a computer no more powerful than a stock (no upgrades, no later-addition parts) Amiga 1000 [7.1-ish MHz motorola 68k, 256kb ram]. Less powerful is fine, but, that as an upper-limit. Just to require some understanding of resource management, and restraint.

Honestly, the recent LLM bubble has made it alarmingly clear how shallow some people think others are... Like, it's a eugenicist project, so, that isn't really surprising. What is more distressing, though, is how many people are perfectly happy to accept the shallow simulacrum of "intelligence" as a high bar. A mouse is orders of magnitude more complicated, has more depth, more understanding of the world, than even the most advanced technologies humanity has b...

If you want to democratize and empower underrepresented/marginalized people in tech - LLMs are not how you do it, and are an utter failure to do so. We already know how to do that, more effectively, without supporting fascism, burning down the planet, and staining your hands with so much blood - You give those people computers they can do stuff with, education, and enough free time and security in their lives to actually do stuff with them. (+ accessibility features if they need them).

@grimmy Hi, I was wondering if pidgin (and related projects) have an official policy regarding llm-generated code posted anywhere? From your timeline here, it seems likely that you don't use them, but, am unclear if there is a project-wide policy about it or not to be able to recommend pidgin (& co.) for https://noai.starlightnet.work/list.html

... Distro review videos are very strange. Like, there is value in doing reviews of distros, BSDs, major-release reviews, etc. But a lot of the videos seem to focus on things like the default config for the default desktop enviornment, and neglect things like what software comes with the base install, what decisions were made about the base install, custom/unique features, things that determine how the distro *works* rather than how it looks. (Not all, prob not even most, are like this >...
