The cord retractor thing on my vacuum cleaner is extremely weak and unsatisfying and nothing like the amazingly fast ones I recall from my youth and I blame woke.

My new keyboard has a little screen in it, so I'm now hiring it out as advertising space to myself. My daily rates are astronomical, but the amount of money I am now owed to myself is going to make my 2027 revenue forecast look great to the investors. This keyboard is also tax deductible now! Computers were good enough to do everything we need them to do ten years ago. Everything since then is bullshit. If you can't do your job on a computer from 2016 you're just bad at your job. That's a fact, I don't make the rules. There are enough computer games to play now too. Your life isn't long enough to play all the ones we have, it's time to stop making more. Just play them. Stop making more computer. Immediately.

I'm so sick of this whole business where it's dark outside before it's even 6pm and I demand someone gets onto making the days longer immediately.

@mwl@io.mwl.io can we have a "Goat Farming for System Administrators" guide in the near future? I'm probably not the only one feeling like that's the most appealing career progression path.

My car is complaining that the brakes need service. I'm sure that's fine, right? I can just ... let it slide. 😎 (BRB calling my mechanic)

I have given myself a night off and ordered from the fish and chips place. However all the images of their food on the delivery thing are now generative slop that look nothing like what's going to show up. Is everyone just ignoring this? I'm used to accepting that pictures of food were usually dressed up and "best case scenario" but god damn this is just wildly wrong. Show me one Australian who is ordering a Chiko Roll and expecting this:

This review of the final installment of Good Omens is probably a better piece of writing than I'm going to get from the show itself, "... the cast, particularly Tennant and Sheen, very nearly redeem it."

As the administrator of Australia's oldest still-operational Mastodon-compatible instance (now in its sixth year) I'd like to say that both places I'm involved in - Chinwag and The Blower - have continuity plans and a great deal of thought has gone into making sure they are not dependent on me alone to survive. If I should burn out at some point, I will pass the administration off to another person or suitable organisation. These communities are bigger than me and my wh...

Once again, my professional recommendation in response to the latest Linux kernel vulnerability in the news is that you should gather up all your electronic devices, cast them into the sea, and retreat to the woods. Each night, gather your children and tell them tales of the Before Times when the hubris of humanity grew so large that we made idols of sand and spoke to them as equals. Remind them that the sand, of course, did not speak or think, but we imagined it could, and let it guide us to f...

Remember back in the good old days when computers were a different kind of annoying? I hated them then too, but differently.
