RE: https://wandering.shop/@susankayequinn/117011226143586063 I'm gonna push this a step further. If you see something on this list that inspires an idea *in addition to art* such as an actual in-the-world project, do it! Plants: start a little garden or throw native seeds in an empty lot Protest: Call your reps or hold a protest sign at a busy corner near you Voting: Register, or offer to take someone to the polls Little Free Libraries: Set one up or help someone else do so ...and...

This method of organization of a business is a step away from capitalism and toward a more community-based, solarpunk-like future. But it still works within today's capitalist-based legal structure. It's not "standard" by any means, but it's set up easily enough with a few important decisions during the startup process. https://www.in-abundance.org/what-is-a-public-commons-parntership #solarpunk

I mentioned to a friend that I'd totally teach for a community-based free school as long as there was some way I could get paid for it. And this being the dystopia we're in, he suggested advertising. "This recess sponsored by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups." "It's lunchtime, kids, brought to you by Palantir, maker of the finest surveillance equipment and software, so remember: don't be naughty!" "Health class...

RE: https://scholar.social/@michaelc/116982003605095380 Just tried some, and it came out pretty good. At a 50/50 shrub-to-sparkling water ratio it's still pretty intense. Next time I use some I'll try 1/3 or 1/4 shrub. Each step of making the shrub seemed to merge the raspberry and vinegar flavors until it turned out like super intense raspberry. The vinegary quality just came out as fruity acidity more than anything. Maybe the tiniest hint of vinegar in the aftertaste, but I&a...

This seems interesting. Having just read "A Half Built Garden" the decision-making features intrigue me the most (at the moment). And I like that they are based on sociocratic process, which I'm a fan of. https://bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bonfire-for-communities/

I think I've got a good system for using no more than 3d6 to simulate evolution up through at least the end of the paleozoic--there have been extinctions, but not a mass extinction unless you roll particularly poorly. Now I'm trying it out on my latest science-based Earth-like planet 'simulation' and excited to see that my two land-pioneer vertebrates happened to randomly colonize two different biomes on two different continents. Exciting! 1/n

Okay, so I'm not sure where the cut on the end of my middle finger came from, but I certainly can tell you that showing off the bandage I put over it also conveys how I feel about the situation.

Something I wish more people understood was "get a new job" or "just get a job" is not actually something a person can *do* -- it's something that *someone else* has to do: hire you. YOU don't have the power by yourself to make that happen. Which means despite anything you might do, you're still up against every single bias that every decision maker has in their heads, and you don't even know what they are. Or what those people's goals are in hiring...

From @cyberlyra : "...there is a base level of protection we need to ensure across all accounts and services. This is higher than most people admit or perform to, and certainly something that you should adopt moving forward without delay. We're going to heighten your baseline up to this level. That doesn't mean you have to get into elite hacker mode for everything, but we can all do better than Gmail." https://www.optoutproject.net/secure-email/

Question: Do you know what issue is most important to you? I emphasize the word "most" -- like, if you got a wish to fix one single problem, would you know your answer immediately, or would you have to think about it? (Doesn't matter if it's big, like climate change, or small, like too many cigarette butts on the ground or whatever.) If you are clear on your most important issue, feel free to add it as a reply. Boosts encouraged for more answers.

Dark patterns, dark patterns, dark patterns. Indeed's listing says I MUST create an Indeed account before continuing to the company website to apply. That's only true *with their button* but I can just, you know, go to the company website using my advanced internet skills of typing in the company name in my browser and going to the "Careers" section. Also note that applying on the company's site won't give Indeed any of my data but creating an...

I am SO tired of computers thinking they're smarter than me. "Oh, don't you worry your pretty little head, dear, but I've changed your carefully selected and embedded typefaces to Arial for your convenience." "Oopsies, looks like you chose to insert page breaks between sections. Okay, so comsec folks, I have two questions: 1) How does this compare security-wise with Jitsi's protocols? 2) Have we heard anything more about the politics of this one since that one red-flag event a year or two ago? https://www.itsecurityguru.org/2026/03/31/proton-launches-encrypted-video-conferencing-and-unified-workspace-to-take-on-google-and-microsoft/ (I'm thinking immediately of @cyberlyra and @hen but there are many others who may have insights) #security #priv...

"I've met countless readers who told me that while they believe absolutely in the ideas from this book, they see the world as a corrupt and greedy place. My answer to them was this: turn off the TV, look around you, and _organzie_. Most people really do have their hearts in the right place. ... If we want to change the world, we need to be unrealistic, unreasonable, and impossible." --Rutger Bregman, "Utopia for Realists"

I "love" how Steam has a whole page called "Programs Which May Interfere with Steam" that's just all "anti-virus software, VPNs, anti-spyware software, firewalls, security programs..." and their advice is try disabling them. Yeah, to play your game you just have to shut down all your security and allow spyware. Um... or maybe let me play my chosen games without spying on me? How can I set up that option? https://help.steampowered...
