  Little Giant fire on the east side of the Cascade Mountains NW’ly of Wenatchee WA. West wind gusting to 30mph is forecast for tomorrow (Saturday). That will likely push the fire to the top of the ridge above Lake Chelan. I have fond memories of doing trips in this area.   Got roof? After 20+ years the plastic roof of the tractor barn started to leak a bit on the side that gets the most UV which also happens to be the side the rain beats on the most. Since firewood gets stacked on the pallets along each side, leaking is bad. Nice to see that the FarmTek company is still around and were able to sell me a new roof.   Got lettuce? I planted these in a raised bed last fall and they overwintered with zero protection while temps got into the low twenties. The new leaves look primo.   Got grapes? We live in growing zone 8b in the greater Seattle area and are planning to try growing red seedless table grapes. Step 1 is to pick a variety. Any suggestions or other advice? We have gardened extensively for years so in general growing stuff is in our wheelhouse. The site where we would plant is well-drained and gets morning and mid-day sun with afternoon shade.   Got lettuce? Planted seedlings in our mini greenhouse on March 2nd. First harvest today. There also is some over-wintered lettuce in a raised bed that will start producing. And we just started lettuce seeds indoors with grow lights and a heat mat.   Turns out I am Canadian. Whatta surprise, eh! One of my brothers is the family genealogy expert. He reports that we have two sets of great-great grandparents that were Canadian. That is more than enough to qualify me for Canadian citizenship, passport and the right to live in Canada if I so choose.   Dug up the Walla Wallas that I seeded in the greenhouse last fall. These will get planted in a raised bed. We should be able to start harvesting by late June. There are a lot more of these in the greenhouse from a tray of starts I bought this spring. Those are much smaller in size.   Recently I finished some new analysis of the Epstein documents. The documents that have been released only have 138 unique victim reports alleging sexual abuse.   The link below will open NASA’s FIRMS map and show MODIS and VIIRS satellite heat detections for the area around Iran. Click the hamburger menu in the upper right corner to see the legend. Some heat detections are for fires on islands and some are for fires on ships. You can zoom in and then turn the data on/off to see if a particular hotspot is on an island or on a ship (i.e. no island visible when you are zoomed in and have turned off the MODIS/VIIRS data).
