Got grapes? We live in growing zone 8b in the greater Seattle area and are planning to try growing red seedless table grapes. Step 1 is to pick a variety. Any suggestions or other advice? We have gardened extensively for years so in general growing stuff is in our wheelhouse. The site where we would plant is well-drained and gets morning and mid-day sun with afternoon shade. @mappingsupport@m.ai6yr.org when I had grapes west of Portland powdery mildew was the biggest problem. Give them as much sun as you can and keep on top of pruning to improve ventilation.

@mappingsupport@m.ai6yr.org @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I don’t have any specific advice, but I’m a fan of the Sunset Western Garden book and their Book of Edibles. The latter has a big list of varieties of grapes, among other things. Grapes are one of the larger entries in mine. You can probably get a used copy cheapish I guess if I do have specific advice, it’s try to get cuttings from neighbors that have what you’re looking for, since it grows well there ;)

@mappingsupport@m.ai6yr.org I don’t know what variety these are since they came with the house, but these red grapes grew well for us last year with similar sounding exposure.

@mappingsupport@m.ai6yr.org I've grown Reliance and Canadice for several years and they do very well in the Snoqualmie Valley in full sun. they ripen in late September, with Reliance being slightly earlier. pic is Reliance last year. Swenson's Red is supposed to do well in our climate and taste excellent, but i haven't tried it. i got mine from Burnt Ridge and they're my first choice for fruit plants. Good prices and excellent quality plants.
