  @exa@sleeping.town i mean if the key backup is re-usable that is actually a big step forward. last time i looked at key backups using one would let you back into your account but wipe your conversation history. and i get the uses of encryption but 99.9% of the time i don't need encrypted chat, i need to talk to my friends, and it's def been a struggle that historically the platform cares more about encryption than it does stable communication.

  i still constantly think about the idea that authoritarians have always wanted to lock down computers like they're currently doing, but in the past people actually liked computers as they were usable and so they fought back against the idea of people destroying computers. but now the technocrats have destroyed computers, so nobody cares about defending computers any more.
