Merry Christmas!

A writer for the Guardian missing the point? Never... Washing bowls are useful for one circumstance. When you only have a single bowl sink. No little side sink for pouring things into or running the tap to rinse things. I've lived in more than a dozen rented properties. Only a handful had the little sink to go with the big one. Therefore a bowl was needed. Not to mention, my bowl never goes furry. I clean it. Like any sane person. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/dec/2...

Interesting opinion piece that seems to miss one huge point. Have either of them considered whether the stressful work is right for them? Stressful jobs often don't get less stressful, and will take a toll on all relationships. So, ignoring that rather large pair of elephants in the room seems weird. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2025/dec/21/after-three-years-of-long-distance-my-partner-and-i-arent-sure-if-we-should-stay-together

Starmer proving once and for all that he is not a leader. He's a poor middle manager, exhibiting a total lack of leadership and a wealth of cowardice. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jan/05/keir-starmer-masterclass-hedging-bets-venezuela-raid

Hey, Sky, how much has all the rebranding from privatisation refranchising cost over the years? Avanti West Coast was Virgin, for example... GWR replaced First Great Western. The list goes on... I don't remember seeing an article complaining about that? How about reporting actual news rather than manufacturing it? #UKPolitics https://news.sky.com/story/great-british-railways-how-much-of-your-cash-has-been-spent-on-trains-rebrand-13491238

Yet more evidence that our government lacks simple morality. Starmer's form of control is to obsess over bureaucracy, ignoring humanity. This pattern has been repeated ever since Labour won, and it is disheartening that they are acting just as badly as the Tories were. #UKPolitics https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/jan/09/home-office-gaza-academic-bassem-abudagga-family

Having a gun license is a privilege, not a right. Also, computers and Internet based forms have been common for several decades now. If you don't have the basic confidence and competence to sit and read what a page says, and fill in the right boxes, should you really own a gun? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpwnxeyrkkko.amp

Look at that, another disgraced politician, who is only interested in his own advancement, joining Reform. If this doesn't show that Reform and the Tories are moral vacuums, I don't know what does. Yet people fall for it. #UKPolitics https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/12/former-tory-chancellor-nadhim-zahawi-defects-to-reform-uk

I think the US court is a little wrong here. If a songwriter from the US sells the copyright for a song to a UK entity, then once the sale is final, unless a clause was put in the contract to allow reclaiming it, the rights now belong to a UK entity and are governed by UK law, not US law. So, if that UK entity simply ignores "Termination" and keeps using it, the original songwriter would have to go to court in the UK. Why does the US think it has global legal power? https:/...

They can't have it both ways. Complain about poor immigration control, and then complain when controls are applied. The reality is, we don't need a foreign visitor coming to the UK to whip up racist hysteria. We have plenty of Brits doing that already. #UKPolitics https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/15/dutch-far-right-influencer-eva-vlaardingerbroek-banned

Articles about farming are always framed in an odd way to me. Farms, while important, are a business. As such, they have to operate profitably to continue. If the market they operate in is saturated and oversupplied, then it is up to the farm to change course and diversify. If any other business can't get a good price for its products because there are too many selling that thing, they do the same. Its time for farming to operate like any other business. https://www.theguardian.com/e...

Beyond offensive and beyond parody at this point. When will the American people, those members of Congress who can, do something about him? Source: The Guardian https://search.app/Q8dQd

Wait, so Just Stop Oil block something and the police arrest them and they get jailed. Farmers do it, and the police do "traffic management"? Those on the right talked of 2 tier policing a while ago, but turns out they're right - the right get treated with kid gloves and the left get locked up. #UKPolitics https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjgg43eg37o.amp

Maybe its time for the UK to rethink its relationship with nature? The Somerset Levels aren't going to suddenly stop flooding, maybe we should stop expecting them to be water-free, and let them go back to their natural state? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/29/somerset-fight-against-flooding-emergency-pumps-river-parrett

I don't understand the thinking of closing the scheme for compensation like this. Surely anyone who misses the deadline can then simply sue? Because the injustice still exists, so closing the scheme will simply increase civil action against the Post Office? #HorizonScandal #PostOffice https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/31/post-office-workers-horizon-compensation-scheme-deadline

Sorry, at this point, the delays are simple incompetence. In the face of such an unstable world, the government is doing what it seems only able to do under Starmer - behave like middle managers. Due to the prevarication, we look to lose the Leonardo plant, and other military schemes are delayed or off course. Just as I thought from the beginning, Starmer is not a leader, he's a manager, and he has built a government of managers. #UKPolitics https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/...

"The government says it has seen a "significant rise" in Access to Work applications over the past two years, although it does not know why" I wonder if it could be the punitive way the government behaves towards any disabled people on benefits, so they're trying to work instead, but are finding the system there to help also doesn't actually work. #UKPolitics https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp82gvgd3p2o

So, Jamie Foxx and Wendell Pierce are ablist? Seems to me that they should face consequences for their own behaviour towards someone with a disability. They can be offended, but to not accept an apology, and the explanation? That's unacceptable. Tourettes is not voluntary. Seems a lot of people still need to learn this. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/feb/23/backlash-bafta-n-word-controversy-jamie-foxx-wendell-pierce-tourette-activist-john-davidson
