A plus side to making ridiculous prototypes and trying out oddball ideas is you can accidentally become the expert in something. Then when a dev proposes a half-baked idea but 'they have no idea if its even feasible' you can do this little move.

Dumb question: This project I'm working on has skill trees based on in-game factions/cultures. So the more points you put into a specific tree, its really you becoming more acclimated to that specific faction and understanding what they do and why. Would it be messed up/frustrating/interesting to have skill trees that are damaged or entirely inaccessible because that culture or knowledge has been lost?

Hold up - You can do a fruit tree as a sort of bonsai tree?

Dumb question: In an RPG, is it actually better to have race impact stats? Or should race selection be more of a cosmetic thing? In my own game, I'm finding it hard not to min/max setups because racial bonuses or perks are too advantageous to pass up. But this kind of defeats the point of getting to choose.

Alright peeps, I'm going to admit I'm failboating. I've spent two weeks being unable to solve collision issues in Godot. I've asked two people to look at it with me but so far no success. I *think* I'm going to ultimately continue this project in Unreal.

Alright got some terrain cooking in Godot. I can't get the collision quite accurate enough though, especially on steeper parts where the collision seems to clip below where the actual mesh is.

"I have a 7 minute ambient track to listen to and make feedback on. SURELY I will get 7 uninterrupted minutes to listen to this." - Me, foolishly deluded.

I'm probably dumb, but shouldn't this default texture filter change textures?

Something I can't stand when I share things I've written is that I have friends and family who try to read between the lines and assume there's some personal desire to the story. I have a story where the protagonist is a pilot and they'll say something like "Oh I didn't know you're into planes! Why don't you try flight school if you're interested in them?"

Alright peeps. So I've done a few 'beast' meshes so far and have had some of them break terribly in Unreal (but look totally fine in Blender) - Well I discovered this. In Blender, this works and can be animated. In Unreal, it will only grab one 'root' bone and its children and drop the rest. I've been stuck on this for a few weeks. ๐

I have a (probably) ignorant question: Could a flat hierarchy game dev company like Valve exist/function without Steam money backing it? Can their management system stand up on its own? #gamedev #indiedev

I had an unusual thought on my current FPS project, which is that I'm very much retreading the same mistakes that I made with Zofia. I suspect I know how to avoid some of the pitfalls I encountered before but a lot of the set up is the same, which ultimately I think will be a problem as the game gets further into development.

I think I need to separate this idea of diegetic = immersive. I've added what I ~believe~ are immersive diegetic features but I'm finding that if something is frustrating or funky to use, that's way less immersive and game ruining. ... This whole shifting train of thought brought to you by sitting down in chairs.

Alright I've ranted enough on the game dev side, time to rant on the film side: I'm looking through some various pitches people have submitted for shorts and a lot of these need CG for them to work. The thing is CG is kind of our struggle boat right now (for various reasons) so these are big hurdles to clear. Now most of these people have done small stuff before but I'd still consider many to be pretty green (including me). I wonder if trying to push more CG-less ideas...

I find it wild when people just draw something without doing some sketchy outlines first. Who the heck just starts drawing lines and commits to it like that? Madness.
