My daughter is buying a car soon so I built her a little car loan calculator: https://labs.cyrillian.com/car_calculator No ads, no tracking, no fluff. 🚘

Called my mortgage company today and they immediately funneled me into a shitty AI voice channel, 🤢. I’ve built many voice agents and most fall short at delivering an experience that respects my time and delivers a better outcome. This stuff is hard and people are way too gung-ho to deploy this stuff.

Working on a hedge maze level type for my roguelike today. Got the maze gen working great. Now seeing if I can re-use my existing pre-fabs..

Got the hedge maze working! Now on tuning the first few levels. Monster spawns, random items drops, loot tables, random encounters etc. Tedious work, but so satisfying. #roguelike

Several years ago I was biking - a lot. Over 3,000 miles that year, most of it on a cheap department store bike. One morning I was descending a switchback near a dam. The pavement was still wet. My tires slipped out mid-turn, and I went down hard, skidding across concrete on bare skin for several feet. It hurt. A lot.

Slot machine based development has been around much longer than LLMS. Why do you think big companies hired so many people?

Upgraded to macOS 26 from macOS 14. It’s fine. Liquid Glass is pretty meh. I’m sure that’ll improve over the next few years.

Even more relevant these days, just more of a speed-run.

Every external dependency in your project, be it a library or infrastructure will eventually hurt you. That does not mean you should avoid dependencies. It means you should choose them deliberately, understand the failure modes, and put the right boundaries around them so the blast radius stays small. Dependencies are leverage. Just make sure they are not also load-bearing in places you cannot easily repair.

https://cyrillian.com/archive/generals/ I built out this tribute page for an old game my brother and I created in the early iPhone days. Now I’m getting the itch to do a remake 😁.

Received the first art drop for my roguelike last night and it feels like Christmas morning! Can’t wait to wire these in. If you’re looking for a world-class pixel artist @marceles_pixel is awesome!

One of the easiest ways to gain credibility is through follow-through - actually doing what you said you would do. Over time, that compounds. The inverse compounds too.

This week I cleaned up and open sourced Petra. Server-rendered Go HTML, with layouts, component-style template calls, static assets, debug pages, and hot reload in one small package. https://github.com/illyabusigin/petra

Spent an hour or so with Codex to get my 17 year old iPhone game compiling and running in the iOS simulator. Built in Objective-C with Cocos2D. By any standard the codebase is an abomination but it worked! Pushed based async multiplayer back in 2009, single player pass-and-play ,as well as playing against bots. I think we sold/gave away over 100k copies over the lifetime of the game. https://cyrillian.com/archive/generals/ has more details. Maybe I'll resurrect it... :)
