Every external dependency in your project, be it a library or infrastructure will eventually hurt you. That does not mean you should avoid dependencies. It means you should choose them deliberately, understand the failure modes, and put the right boundaries around them so the blast radius stays small. Dependencies are leverage. Just make sure they are not also load-bearing in places you cannot easily repair.
