What 8/16 bit DIP microprocessors are still being produced? And I mean microprocessors, not microcontrollers. The 8051 is still available in some variants, but that's more of a microcontroller. I see hints of 8088/8086 2nd source chips still being available in relatively small quantities, produced by Renesas/Intersil. But are those still actively being produced or is that just new old stock? There's also a hint that there's still production on-going of the 65c02, but the DIP variant...

Hey #NetBSD folks. I'm looking for a nice routerboard that runs NetBSD. At least four 1gbit/sec ethernet ports. I have a Banana Pi R2 Pro right now that I like. Will that work? Any recommendations? Tnx!

I've been pondering the question 'Should I get into RC2014' lately. I'm not sure why, I initially dismissed the idea as 'nah, that's not proper retro computing'. And it isn't, not really. But it does appeal as a permacomputing project, so I pulled the trigger and ordered a kit. I'm looking forward to exploring CP/M on it, an OS I've never used before but have wanted to use for years now. There was some discussion on comp.os.cpm about adding an LCD and key...

Hey all / hej allihoppa! We in the comrade...

Amazed that the `tin` usenet news reader is still around and updated and how it is a thousand times better than any GUI I've used over the past year since I'm running my own news server again. tin.org/ #Usenet #RetroComputing

Looking for cool retro computing images (portrait) to print and hang on the wall of the retro room but all I get is AI slop. I need some human recommendations! Old ads that are mostly visual, artistic photography. I'd happily pay as well, as long as it doesn't involve sending money to the US etc... Please boost for reach? #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #Photography #LazyWeb

Wow, what a difference. After more than a year since I installed friendica, I added memcached. It went from unusably slow to just completely normal and usable! Why didn't I do this right away? Probably because it's poorly documented that this is even possible. Anyway, I'm pretty happy I finally fixed the performance issue on my server. Yay! #friendica #SelfHosting #memcached

I forgot what a joy it is to type on one of these. Now I want a similar experience on my modern desktop. I'm not at all a keyboard nerd (I have enough nerdy obsessions already) so uhm, any recommendations? #LazyWeb #Keyboard #ModelM #RetroComputing
