  I somewhat agree with @torvalds@social.kernel.org on his recent AI statement. LLMs for programming tasks are useful - for the time being. Are they economically viable? Probably not. Are they sustainable? Hell no. Are they copyright infringement? Most likely. But this is not what Torvalds is talking about. This guy just wants to make his Kernel better. I fully expect LLM providers to enshittify the living hell out of these things to recoup their insane investments. They won't stay useful....

  I just went "early swimming" for a discount at the local pool. 🏊🏻‍♂️ I did 500 meters and a little extra and it felt really good. I think I finally found my preferred form of exercise. Getting out of bed at 6 AM for it will remain a challenge, though.

  I finally went ahead and migrated my Mastodon to NixOS so I can finally update it again. Same for Synapse. This took a while. Writing NixOS configs is just as time consuming as writing configuration the first time, but now I hopefully have a long-lived solution. 🙏🏻

  My neurologist advised that I should try EEG Neurofeedback. Unfortunately public health insurance doesn't cover it. Well, I'm just going to DIY it.   I made a little very specific program that you probably only need if you are me. I keep getting sidetracked during work. With nobody to judge me and nothing to interrupt my tangents I do a lot of interesting things throughout the day but none of them are the work I am supposed to do. This little message will pop up at regular time intervals and ask me if I'm doing work right now. I have to answer honestly. I use it to work through a daily checklist and keep track of weekly and monthly tasks. It also works really well as a scratchpad for other little backlog todos.   As a KDE Plasma user, I was always jealous of some of the nicer GNOME apps. Recently I realised that I don't need to be. I can run GNOME apps on KDE Plasma just fine!   It's so sad. With CalDAV we have a really nice open protocol for syncing events, todos and notes. The protocol, which is technically more of a file format (iCalendar) even supports quite complex reccurence rules and even things like recurring tasks.   The annoying thing in Windows that re-enables unpopular settings is called "User Choice Protection Driver" (UCPD.sys) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQUYh4iKsB0 It's original intent was well-meaning: Prevent apps from messing with user defaults, like the browser or installing unwanted extensions or toolbars.   @botler Ich nutze vorallem Steam weil's einfach sau zuverlässig ist. Zuletzt aber auch weil es etwas leichter war von "Protonfixes" zu profitieren. Aber das Lutris Update mit Proton-GE klingt interessant für mich.

  Since this year I have massive trouble accessing anything hosted on AWS during the evening hours like these. My ISP is Deutsche Telekom AG (AS3320) and it looks like the only route to AWS (AS16509) leads through Cogent (AS174). MTR is showing more than 30% packet loss through Cogent to an AWS target. I know peering between DTAG and Cogent has been historically bad, but I never noticed issues until now. What happened? Do any BGP nerds know more? #BGP #Routing #Internet #Backbone #AskFedi
