I'm low-key in the market for a new phone, and I might be able to get one with /e/ instead of vanilla Android. But I wonder about a number of things: 1. with Google's clamping down on independent app development, what are the possible ramifications for non-Google Android OSes? 2. I've heard a bunch of times that banks, health insurances and government-related apps (e.g. electronic IDs) "don't like" non-Google Android. I'd be curious abo...

Reasons I love my wife: She enjoys listening to me explaining a modal mixture common tone enharmonic double-chromatic mediant modulation, or: the way that Céline Dion's version of "All By Myself" modulates from G major to C flat major. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT2gVblzFvY (Modulation drops at 3:20, but it's worth listening to the buildup)

That feeling when my inbox is overflowing but my brain is like "when was the last time I got to enjoy unbridled hyperfocus on a special interest?" #ADHD #neurospicy

I had an interesting conversation with my wife yesterday, and I'd be curious about your thoughts. We talked about culture. My working hypothesis is that culture is an active and collective process. I remember that her opposition to my idea was "but nobody cares about Schiller anymore!", to which my answer was: Even the preservation of what is commonly called heritage is an ongoing process (and, of course, in no way neutral).

I listened to Theatre of Tragedy today while I cleaned out/reorganized my wardrobe, and then I wanted more of that kind of sound, and I ended up learning about Witchgaze. I guess I have a new genre that I like.

So my workshop proposal for this year's Gulaschprogrammiernacht was accepted. Now I guess I need to prepare my :sccube: workshop and actually start reading the textbook by Eli Fieldsteel that I finally have in my possession. #GPN24 #SuperCollider

Heads up to people who want to learn SuperCollider: Eli Fieldsteel published a new series of lecture recordings. I really learned a lot from the previous iterations of those, highly recommend them! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPYzvS8A_rTY2H2RANVM18-wRoJ5dzzW4 #SuperCollider #creativeCoding #SoundDesign #ElectronicMusic

I'm looking at things on IKEA for reasons and took a detour to the office chair section of the website … and I'm reminded of how narrow the standards for "normal" bodies are. Case in point: None of the "ergonomic" chairs can be adjusted to a seat height that allows me to sit in a posture that is commonly recommended (feet flat on the floor). I have known a lot of people who are markedly shorter than I am. Yet I continue to run into all kinds...

One of the best analyses of the sad state of the Internet that I recently read is Cory Doctorow's "How to destroy surveillance capitalism": https://craphound.com/category/destroy/ It might be a timely read, too! It has some good explanations on why so many of us are still participating in destructive platforms like Facebook and Twitter, why they are such hellholes and what that has to do with monopolies.

Finally got around to listening to "Strategies against Algorithms" by @stephan and I love it! A personal, sincere album, at times bleak, wrestling with climate change, AI, and other serious topics of our time. I especially enjoyed the interesting, warm synthesizer sounds. It comes with a big beautiful booklet with handwritten lyrics. You cannot buy this album. It is only available in exchange for something you created yourself: https://strategies.schallundstille.de/ #Strategi...
