I had an interesting conversation with my wife yesterday, and I'd be curious about your thoughts.
We talked about culture.
My working hypothesis is that culture is an active and collective process. I remember that her opposition to my idea was "but nobody cares about Schiller anymore!", to which my answer was: Even the preservation of what is commonly called heritage is an ongoing process (and, of course, in no way neutral).

But mainly, I think, culture should be a verb. It's not something that lives in institutions. It is something that we all make, every time we participate in society. I wonder how much that's a leftist notion. (I guess my understanding of culture owes a lot to Umberto Eco's semiotic concept of culture, but also the conscious culture-building of one of my communities.)
