  I've been trying to diagnose intermittent dropped packets, high latency, and WAN disconnects on a DSL connection at a remote site for months. The ISP has had many techs come out and try to fix it on their end. The Amazon facility that got hit in the Gulf is an interesting case study in what could happen. The most vulnerable bit would be the substation or electric yard.   I'm a little surprised the flash flooding outside #Boise #Idaho hasn't gotten more attention.   Crazy idea... Containerize data centers and put them on old container ships. Pull up power ships alongside. When the region gets sick of them and bans them, they can be moved somewhere else. The downside is data piracy could take on a new meaning.

  Cool cool... just Monterey changing their existing parking permit system which has worked fine for decades using decals and is free, and now will require $25/year, an online system, and license plate readers to make work. Oh and guest passes will no longer be paper, and instead will require some online shenanigans to make happen. Why change something that works to something that is harder? I guess that means all the meter maids in Monterey will be using license plate readers rather than chalk...

  Gas is so incredibly cheap on the East Coast! The lowest we saw was in Massachusetts on Thursday night a little west of Boston where we saw $3.01/gal. Most of the weekend through Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania it was between $3.50 and $4.10. It wasn't that cheap in California BEFORE everything started. Diesel was in the $5-$6/gal range though. Which is still $1-2/gal lower than California.

  It's kinda amazing that I'm able to 💩post on 🐘 from a plane at 34,000 ft flying over the Lake of the Ozarks where my family got flooded out 90 years ago. My great grandma (one of the folks who had to relocate to the hills from their farm in the river bottom) was born before the first airplane flight.
