A few of the app icons got the new glass look (still using secret internal Apple tools not available to the rest of us, I guess – no Icon Composer support), and they changed some (but not all) of the glass edge highlights to come from the top instead of 45°. The highlight direction appears to be the only change, it’s still the old glass shader otherwise. cc @nicor...

  Trying to do something with RSS and quickly learning that it’s literally impossible to build a parser that parses every feed correctly, mostly due to ambiguity around HTML entities in titles, article IDs being fucking optional and usually being non-stable values anyway, and that article deletion isn’t even something the format can handle. “Really simple” my ass.

  tired: writing the structure of your website in HTML so it works nice and the styling in CSS so it looks nice wired: writing random bullshit in HTML so it looks and works like random bullshit, and writing your styling in JS so everyone can see how bad you are at writing HTML while they wait for your megabytes of javascript to finish running

  Giving people 30-50 year sentences for thinking thoughts against the actions of an administration that has, at most, 2.5 years left, is a glimpse of how much deeper this goes than just the current administration. “Just hang in there until 2029 and the nightmare will be over” ain’t gonna cut it.

  Two betas in and the #tvOS 27 UI is still 100% visually unchanged from tvOS 26. It still has the iOS 26-style liquid glass with the 45° skewed lighting and the plasticky looking icons (& still no Icon Composer support!) and everything. I know the rumors say there’s a new Apple TV device coming soon, but I have a hard time imagining they would release new hardware with the software using a visual style they’ve moved on from (& whose creator has moved on from Apple, lol)

  Is it just me or did yesterday's #macOS and #iOS security update completely break #Safari to where it straight up won't render most websites anymore? For example, this is what Mastodon looks like now (it’s not a Mastodon problem, almost all websites look something like this). If I try to open the web inspector to see what happened, it’s… also totally blank

  27 beta 2 made the app opening/closing animations on my M1 iPad run at 120fps again for the first time since iPadOS 18 (they looked like <10fps in every version of 26), but 27 beta 3 brought them back down to ~30fps 😒 Edit: Default or Dark icons allow the home screen to run at 120fps, Clear runs ~20-30, Tinted (which I thought would be the same as clear since it’s the same effect with a tint) runs at 60. #ios27

  I don’t understand why Apple sends a push notification to all your devices when your Apple Watch battery is charged, but not when it dies. The inevitable result is that I end up walking around all day with a dead Apple Watch like an idiot

  Was wondering why my MacBook was getting hot, looked in Activity Monitor, two performance cores both sitting at 100% usage from the Apple Health app within an invisible iPhone Simulator instance that was spawned automatically by Xcode for UI previews in a window that isn’t even open anymore and infinitely relaunches itself when quit. What an incredible platform to develop for

  “Fix” frequently reported bugs in your open source repo with this one weird trick! Find the first time it was reported five years ago, close that one for being inactive, then mark all the subsequent reports as duplicates of that one! It’s like the bug fixed itself! (brought to you by the massive audio distortion I’m experiencing in a popular open source game streaming thing)
