  this isn't a movie that makes a whole lot of sense, and steve martin really cannot sell the new york italian mob guy as such. still, there's a certain kind of charm to the sheer nora ephron-ness of the writing and these are actors one appreciates seeing do their thing. 90 odd minutes i don't regret but feel unlikely to revisit.

  there's this company that, ten years ago, i bought a thing from. specifically, a roof rack for a large van. (we still have the van, and atop it, the roof rack. it's fine. has carried many bicycles, ladders, etc.) a few weeks back i started getting e-mails about roof rack sales and such. if i investigate, am i going to find that this company has been acquired and is on its way to being stripped for parts by some kind of evil ownership group?

  yesterday's weather included 97 degrees in may, so much blowing dirt while we were out decorating graves in the country cemeteries that i'm still shaking grit out of my hair (RIP the topsoil on the one tiny chunk of farm ground the family still owns), racing a tornadic storm for more miles than was probably at all wise, and some brief torrential downpours. maybe it will snow in the next couple days and really round things out.

  this is going to be a controversial opinion, but i feel strongly that the problem with ice cream that has little bits of chocolate in it is that the chocolate would be so much better tasting and more pleasing to eat if it hadn't been made all frozen by putting it in ice cream.
