me in 1995: hackers is an unrealistic film because computers don't work like that and thus it is stupid me now: hackers is an unrealistic film because it believes that good things are possible and hacker culture is on the side of downtrodden and the earth and it's great

    @brennen@federation.p1k3.com You should take a look at the Hackers on Planet Earth conference, or 2600 generally :) The idealistic strain of the culture has never gone away. Cybersecurity has merely sought to claim the history for its own purposes as it became institutionalized. And yes, Hackers is schlocky goodness :3
