I finally remember why the way I code now feels familiar: it’s how I did it in grade school/middle school/high school. I would futz around with stuff, and thought it was somewhere between scribbling and practice, but not really programming. Programming was for serious things, people got paid for it, maybe I could but that was always “someday” and not a path I was on. Professional programmers have big workstations and futuristic shit on their ginormous screens. Not me, I just had Turbo C++ or ue...

I genuinely have no idea what is true about anything I haven’t directly witnessed anymore. Like I know for a fact that at 2003 the anti-war protest in Raleigh NC there were thousands of people against the invasion of Iraq, and almost no one in support – yet the local papers gave equal column inches and quotes to the pro-war counter protesters. Because I was there. But I don’t know if any of the horror stories about (for example) PRC, DPRK, USSR, or former East Germany are real. Did China conque...

Oh, is there a problem? I thought drag was just an art form, about performance and dressing up, right? So what’s wrong about using that word? … (I feel like 99% of the transfem frustration with the way “drag” is elevated to the Face Of Pride (every goddamn year!) would vanish if people just called it what it re...

Bear in mind that I am writing this while a (cis) women’s employee group is having a regular lunch get-together. They are in the office doing networking, I am at home deliberately avoiding it. In my office of ~500 people, I am the only semi-out trans person. Not even trans fem, just trans at all. And “semi-out” because I stopped doing visibility events several years ago, am post-op, enough years on HRT that people say I am passing (…”passing”…as a real human being?) so I am kind of stealth. Peo...
