I genuinely have no idea what is true about anything I haven’t directly witnessed anymore. Like I know for a fact that at 2003 the anti-war protest in Raleigh NC there were thousands of people against the invasion of Iraq, and almost no one in support – yet the local papers gave equal column inches and quotes to the pro-war counter protesters. Because I was there.
But I don’t know if any of the horror stories about (for example) PRC, DPRK, USSR, or former East Germany are real. Did China conquer Tibet, or liberate its people from an awful feudal regime? Is Russia trying to conquer Ukraine, or prevent Ukraine from ethnic cleansing? Was Germany reunified, or did a West German government embedded with ex-Nazis take it over?
There have been so many lies exposed in Western propaganda that I just don’t know which stories are basically true (but maybe exaggerated in favor of capitalist interests) and which were entirely invented out of nothing.
Just how deep does the rabbit hole really go? It’s easy to say that Fox news is 100% false, and CNN is 90% false… but how much of what was printed in the Western history books about the non-Western world is false? And for how long? Are we 800 years deep into a dozen Big Lies?
