RE: https://mastodon.social/@fastmail/117029860720841187 Fastmail isn't free, but I've been painlessly using it for a few years now. I've got my website parked there at no extra cost.

Think I'll go back to Debian after a lot of years with Ubuntu and LinuxMint. I like Cinnamon and see that I can use it, so why not? Mint has LMDE, but why not use the actual distro. Getting all the little changes I've made on my system is the part I hate. I most likely can't just use my Mint home directory. We'll see.

@stefano Once again I ran the bssg server a couple time as I fixed mistakes on a page. Then I uploaded the site and puzzled about what was wrong with nothing linking. I had not run the build before uploading. If I blogged more I'd probably remember to do it correctly.

I discovered Musikcube (https://github.com/clangen/musikcube/wiki) today and it is so much easier to use than cmus. I hope to write a post on it soon. So far the only downside I see is that I couldn't import my playlists. But making new ones within the program wasn't hard. You move from block to block with TAB. To get to the buttons at the bottom use ESC. When you are in a block you can use arrow keys. No matter where you are you can use j,l to change tracks or i,k to change v...

I like the different pronunciation in order to tell the difference between buoy and boy. Oddly enough "buoyant" seems to usually be said with "boy". At least I say it with that.

Peace as a priority while furthering relationship in order to become closer seems like a very good way of thinking.

I finally bought a new mattress. The last one was 13 years ago. It cost twice as much. Not sure if that is inflation or quality of the mattress. It took me a couple years to convince myself that it really was bad enough. I wonder if this new one will outlast my body.

Trying out a link to a 2 minute music video. This is instead of youtube. It's Johnnie B. Goode cover by Elle & Toni. https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=3X6_CKwXtfA

I had a good time today learning something probably useless for me. I do enjoy this kind of thing. I found a copy of an old WordPerfect install floppy image set on Internet Archive. Then I learned about something called dosemu2 which does a DOS emulation on Linux. Then I messed around with the images of the floppy disks and got that old version of WordPerfect installed and running on the DOS emulation. So I typed a little document and saved it. I went to look at it in Linux and it was mostly g...

New neighbors moved into the rental house next door a couple days ago. I saw the car and a couple of very small bikes. Yesterday afternoon I got the first glimpse of humans. I saw the backs of two little blonde heads in a large stroller in the carport. Then I saw a fit-looking, probably youngish person with long hair putting on something, maybe socks and shoes. And then I saw the stroller moving down their drive way with the young person on a skateboard pushing the stroller. And out my other win...

@bilbo_b You may be the person who recommended course.ysap.sh to me. I'm about an hour into it. That took me a week, so my plan to do it in 2 weeks won't happen. But it is fantastic. I already knew a lot of it, but there was a lot I learned, too. It's rapid fire, but so rich. Looks like my "tiny experiment" is showing me that I do want to learn Bash scripting, at least a bit of it. Thank you for this recommendation. I'm now at the place wher...

Phone saga. And, yes, I'm a little dense sometimes. I tried to use the Internet on my phone while I was out of wifi range. Turns out I did not have data service. I should have known that I would not have requested service with data when I originally got the service with a flip phone. It cost more for data. But I want data for when our Internet is down so I needed to change plans. Only $5 more but I couldn't figure out how to do it with the instructions I found online. Turns out t...

@stefano Do you have any advice on learning programming in bash? Did you learn in a course or a book or some other way? I've just spent a couple weeks with a book on Perl and have decided that since I'm more familiar with bash, it might be better to learn a bit of it.

I got my first taste of what must be an LLM at work. I tried to buy my first smartphone for an upgrade on my Verizon account. The payment part went fine, but at the end of the viewing of agreements and such there was a notice that "Oops. Something went wrong. Call phone number 800-xxx." I called and met my opponent who won hands down. It was all "Sorry, I don't understand..." I think it understood "Goodbye" when I said that, but I did...

@stefano Trying to ask about a BSSG issue at brew.bsd.cafe, but I get: 429 Too Many Requests Also login says site can't be reached. Nothing urgent, so don't worry about it on my account.
