Midday in northern Illinois and the AQI is over 500. Angel of Death smoke on the ground. Visibility in the road is maybe 1,000 feet. Like very thick fog, but toxic. ๐ซ๏ธ ๐ Scary stuff.

Driving back from a quick errand this morning I came upon a flock of about 2 dozen Canadian geese slowly crossing the road to get to a favorite pond. They take their damn time and are protected in Illinois. So, I put on my emergency blinkers, set the car in park, and listened to the entirety of "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones playing my car radio (WXRT) and watched the cars behind me patiently wait for the geese to cross a two-lane road. Took about 4+ minutes. Honk. ๐ ๐ชฟ

A village board meeting for June 2 in a nearby Lake County community was cancelled. Residents are very concerned about a huge T5 data center planned on former farmland. The town approved it a few years back, before anyone knew how nasty data centers were as neighbors. I'm with the disgruntled residents. ๐ค

In a weird birthday phone call to me, my ex-husband who was an abusive, alcoholic, adulterous and cruel spouse during our 16-year marriage, spoke of his life. He remarried to an heiress with family compounds all over the nation. His life expanded with travel, a winter villa in Mexico, fine dining, events, a summer home in Canada, the best of everything. My life contracted and got far smaller, and my jobs were horrible while I attempted to make ends meet. It seemed as if he was rewarded for his b...

Just want to get this information sorted clearly. We're compensating January 6 rioters for rioting and storming the capital? I watched that event on live TV and was traumatized. Can I file a claim for emotional distress? ๐ค

Yesterday was my birthday. My sister found this old photo of my dad holding me in a backyard. It's one of 2 old photos I have of him in relative health. I was 11 when he passed. Handsome guy. ๐

Today I purchased a hanging pot of some fuchsia germaniums from Germania at my local Ace Hardware because I am a cheapskate and they were only 15 clams. Hung them in front of my home on a shepherd hook plant do-hickey. Nice splash of color at the front porch.๐ฉท

Off to the local DMV today for a renewed license and photo. Have to take an eye exam and refresher written exam because geezers my age keep driving into buildings. Lathered on a bunch of make-up because I'm so pale, the photo will reveal that I look like a walking ghost. But who cares? Ghosts need to run errands too. ๐ป ๐

Passed all my DMV tests at 100%, no errors. But the ID photo of me, despite my lengthy elaborate makeup this morning, resembles a corpse. Maybe a ghost corpse. But I'm good to go for another 4 years and can crash into as many buildings as I want. Yah! ๐ป ๐ ๐

Very locally ~ Today I saw a large, fuzzy gray squirrel munching on what looked like a buckeye previously buried in the side yard. Buckeyes are native to the state. It was a pretty good find because usually, squirrels only locate about 20% of their autumn buried stash, according to squirrelologists. ๐ฐ

Very locally ~ Today I swapped out all the heavy winter bedding for the summer weight bedding on my queen sized bed. Washed, dried, folded and stored it all and made a lighter weight summer time bed. I put on over a half mile of steps running around that bed a zillion times. ๐๏ธ

Tonight I watched a couple of episodes of "This is a Gardening Show" starring Zach Galifianakis. It's streaming on #Netflix and is funny, educational and endearing. Refreshing to watch a show about growing and foraging foods instead of all of the dark, menacing stuff consuming the news cycles. Shortish episodes, lots of green exteriors, knowledgeable gardeners and kind of a psyche cleanse. Recommend. ๐บ #Series

Lots of lightning and warm sky tears falling tonight. They will continue to fall, boom and flash all night. I have horrible luck when calling for information Typically, I wait on hold for 45 minutes and then get disconnected. Today, I called the state's DMV office expecting the same. You know you're a card carrying geezer when your body parts can predict the weather. We're expecting heavy thunderstorms tonight, the kind that are deep red and pink on the weather radar app. But my big toe went into weather alert mode this afternoon because I have a Magic Bunion! ๐ฆถ ๐ช โจ

The tornado sirens went off ๐ช๏ธ and my television blinked off. It's a deluge of water and lightning. This year, Illinois has had 54 (fifty four) tornadoes, more than any other state in the nation. It's only April. The 2nd tornado warning went off and will expire at 11 PM. My sister who lives a bit south and west of me in the same county just texted me that her sirens went off too. Have to give it to the Midwest, the seasonal changes are very dramatic. Thanks again to my Magic Bun...
