#ABPoli I deserve a hero cookie. Or at least a cookie. This last weekend I attended a once in a lifetime effect for with my family in south central Alberta. As it happened, we picked a good spot to setup and then shortly after another group setup beside us. My partner being friendly said you look familiar to one of group. They identified themselves as a well known member of the Alberta Legislature of the UCP Caucus. I'm no fan (by far) of the UCP, and specifically this one has been Minis...

@SynAck@corteximplant.com Hope against hope you don't experience A) the end of your well paid industry before you've saved enough B) life circumstances that drain your savings prematurely C) your desired work to be in a space that has been completely subsumed by the worst possible people D) all of the above

Unfortunately the same companies who apply the label of 'likely created with AI' with questionable (zero) accuracy, is that they have an incentive to a) encourage people to believe GenAI is used more places than it actually is b) encourage people to believe GenAI is creating higher quality works than it actually is c) encourage people to become used to seeing "Created with AI" as the norm d) devalue human created works all because they themselves are the ones selling the GenAI...

#making #audio Second completed project in the last few days. Wanting a "throw-away" speaker with a large-enough cone easily exposed (explained letter) and having no amplifier that I could use (speakers that I don't want to take apart, but have an easy-connect proprietary ends I didn't want to mess with)... I found a $7 Right speaker from some Pioneer system.Bought a $14 amplifier component from amzn that had volume control, easy screw terminals for power, audio in and speak...

Finally finished #making my #Minecraft Clock! Features: game accurate time of day indicator (24h cycle)nearly game accurate pixel graphicsmy kids think I'm a genius (eat. duration of effect: 12 minutes) Lessons learned: Manual assembly of multiple prints is garbage. Next time something like this needs to be done, get it printed at the printshop on larger paper. Don't use the cheapest clock frame you can find. The screw receptors for securing the back to the frame cracked and I had to fin...

Max decided this was the best spot on the deck yesterday. Today we put a towel in for comfort for him. He's been there an hour this far.

#projector fired up the castoff NEC NP3151W projector from a previous employment today and connected up the set-top box to watch some sports out on the deck. Ugly vertical patches that are colour and position shifted left. Regular positioned as though it's a protocol issue, but it's internal as it affects the OSD menus also. Even with the visual distortion the partner enjoyed it. Queries ensued regarding a replacement projector, so the search is on. Trying for lower prices as I'm...

Important safety tips for AI Boosters: Lean the difference between LLM tools and other Machine Learning techniquesUnderstand that Generative AI is different from Discriminative AIKnow that a majority of the world now uses the term "AI" when referring to LLM and other Generative tools. (This is tanks to AI companies and their boosters purposefully positioning their services as the only "AI") Do not muddy the waters defending "AI" (LLM & Generative tools) from cr...

I've been training a custom model for years. I've used an updating set of training data, different training modalities, varying applications of backpropagation and reinforcement approaches to correcting errors as discovered. I've used this model to create and complete many successful software projects. Design some hardware projects, even plan driving routes, and strategies for boardgames and video games. This model has been an instrumental component to the majority of my income. The...

@abstractcode@eigenmagic.net Someone (a Jr. or a Manager, Exec.) would always question the "It is possible that X condition is met, resulting in this specific failure." with "but that would be pretty rare. In"Reality", how likely is it to actually happen?" thinking it as a gotcha/rhetorical question meant to shut down the conversation and never have to worry about it. I lived seeing their faces as they try to process the answer of "It's guaranteed to happ...

"This YouTube video should have been a short blog post" is a mood that has long overstayed it's welcome. Did not ask for the history of the process of X. Did not ask for witty banter with the imagined audience. Did ask for how to do X with enough description to convey the information, without over complication. Some illustrative images/pictures to compliment the written description as needed. I really can't drop into a full Audio & Video experience most times I need qui...

#antiai #schools I had a chance to speak today at the ward meeting for our kid’s School District. They get input on from parents and kids and teachers on various subjects. Today's topic was "Concerns about technology in the classroom". The kid's session was just finishing up as I arrived for the parents session. Going around the table, each of the about 25 people, a mix of parents, school council members, and teachers had an opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns etc....

Me: OK I feel better about that, now I NEED to do that reading & paper work. Also Me: NO ONE CAN WORK AT THIS DESK IN IT'S CURRENT STATE! GOTO 10

#slopCoding #noAI Recently to me : "AI can help speed up your coding. Of course you have to watch it and check out what it does, there always needs to be a human in-between. You just have to know how to use it well to get good results." Further back: "it's like having an army of interns." So... You are expected to spend you time learning how to best use this thing to maybe, hopefully probably generate code that you need to then review and hopefully detect how it's...

#FediTechHelp Got my lil racoon hands on a discarded FortiGate 100E gateway/switch thing. It's past it's manufacturer support for updates. It's still assigned is previous owner (account by email, I've tried contacting them for a transfer token but they are local and notoriously crappy about responding to emails even for current clients) Anyways... Is there any way to make this device useful via flashing with UART, tricking it into loading magic firmware, some other network...

Trade negotiations breaking down. One faction accusing the other of (possibly inadvertent) theft of resources, the other refusing an audit. Mediator assisted accusing party in self audit. During that audit a forgotten past transaction surfaced. Now the other party calmly claims "supply and demand" as reason for now inflated price on the desired goods during fresh negotiations. This is a toot about my #kids and #PokemonCards.

#HomeAquarium New assassin snail introduced to the aquarium today, along with 3x Orange Amano Shrimp. The shrimp scurried off into hiding, But the new assassin snail found the existing one. #arduino on #linux I gave up on getting to get Arduino's IDE to function. Luckily I had the arduino-cli tool installed. Queue, a couple hours learning it's workflow. An hour was spent testing my readily handy Arduino Unos as I had done one program and it didn't seem to do anything. arduino-cli upload ... even the basic blink didn't produce any results. The device still powered on, the BUILTIN_LED blinks 3X as part of the startup routine, do it still works. Again tried a diffe...

#homeLab fun... Randomly checked my #graylog dashboard for self hosted webserver. Oh someone was trying various WordPress vulns again... Let's see the inbound IPs... Oh,... Oh no. The call is coming from inside the network! In the 192.168.1.0/24 group... K, check that host... Oh yeah 🤦♂️ that's the node that hosts the externally visible reverse proxy service. Derp, Well, at least reconfiguration of the proxy and webserver to carry the real client IP was fairly straightforward. Just someth...

@SynAck@corteximplant.com @jadedtwin@corteximplant.com I first seen fight club completely alone in a theater. In my very early 20s, just happened that I really wanted to see a movie that evening and none of my friends were available so I figured I'd go see something anyways. Turns out I was the only one in the theater. Surreal experience. Being that age, after seeing that movie for the first time not having really known about it... Was a mind trip for my then mental state. One should not...
