The next time anyone says 'you can't tax the rich, they will leave!' just point at JK Rowling's ongoing attacks on vulnerable communities and weaponisation of the courts against charities and then ask them if they think any one person having that level of influence in a nation is really a good thing. If someone attended a birthday party and started eating everything, unwrapping and stealing gifts, bullying other people and making threats to anyone who said no, yo...

Most of northern Europe is in a state that could best be described as arid, but climate change isn't real, folks.

Seems people are 'porting' games to the Atari Jaguar, using AI now. By porting, of course, they mean taking reverse engineered source code projects they didn't contribute to creating, feeding it to Claude until they get something they can screenshot or take a video of to get kudos online, then abandoning the projects because they ran out of tokens and have no goddamned clue how it works, nevermind how to optimise it into anything more than a slideshow without any enemies...

People who like AI talk about the noise pollution from datacenters in the abstract without actually experiencing what that noise is. It's just a noise, how bad could it really be to live with 24/7? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AAQsnrAHy5Y

https://arstechnica.com/ai/2026/08/reddit-ceo-on-ai-overviews-were-still-looking-for-that-win-win/ 'Why is the AI company that we sold all our users down the river to actually harming our business?' says CEO who was told repeatedly by his users that this would be the outcome. Also Huffman is a fascist who protects far right subs and ha been open about the fact he believes so very is going to collapse and he will be a slaver afterward, not a slave.

https://www.404media.co/ai-companies-are-buying-tons-of-old-books-because-theyre-free-of-ai-slop/ 'We need these books as we hadn't ruined literature when they were written!' Don't forget the stripmining of all human knowledge and culture from the 'ethical' AI people didn't stop because they got sued. They're just using third parties to source things, in much the same way their scrapers keep on returning to websites in a wide array of glasses and moustaches when...

If you have younger folks in your lives, take the opportunity, while the weather is warm to go out and look at the night sky so they can remember how it used to be, because with the likes of SpaceX, Amazon and others littering low orbit with constellations and cartoon supervillains like Reflect Orbital planning of mirrors, pretty soon all we will see is profit driven noise.

https://www.transiticsnews.com/p/after-pushing-anti-trans-laws-to Good news, TERFS. To further protect women's sports, now the handful of trans athletes have been banned, the men you put in charge of the world are now planning to protect women's sports even more by *checks notes* banning cis women too. Who would have thought getting into bed with fascists would backfire like this? Well, other than everyone who told them over and over and over.

https://github.com/BryanLunduke/LCOS Good news everyone, the anti woke operating system is here. No weird politics here, folks, you know that's true as it's run by a man who calls himself the king, wants people to obey biblical rules, maintains a list of software deemed 'woke', and has Brandon Eich's Brave installed by default.

PC gaming and gaming in general discovering that the allergy to optimization and obsession with slightly prettier graphics at all costs weren't sustainable is an interesting side effect of AI. Nothing was learned from the graphic processor shortages of the Crypto era.

I wonder how long it'll be for AI slopbros to go full Crypto cultist and have the logo of their favorite prompt generator branded on them for life.

When someone on the right parrots a blatant, provable falsehood that is doing the rounds in their media ecosystem, never assume they genuinely believe it. The vast majority are not that stupid, what they are doing is hoping that it will become accepted as true by people dumber than they are if it's signal booster enough, and that the world will be so polluted by small lies, the big ones will be harder to spot, as will the real agenda. Look at how the right embraced the litter boxes in s...

While the AI bubble is terrible for everyone in creative fields, I like to think there are at least a few thousand folks called Alex, Alice, Alfred and such who have really cashed in due to clerical errors. The age of Sans Serif fonts is potentially a boom time to be an Al.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@greenpeace/116578426947180612 Ever notice how the thumbnails for these sort of articles on mainstream news sites always feature a stock image of a worker, doing worker things, and never the images of the CEOs who are directly responsible for the decisions and political donations the companies have made? It ain't guy in a hi-vis best you need to be mad at.

    Once again, fuck the EBU.

So the exact same crap pulled as last year then? Does this mean the EBU finally act? Not a chance. They're more likely to bring back Russia.

Fun to be accused of being sanctimonious for pointing out when people use sh*t sources funded by shady industry think-tanks. Life would be a lot easier for me if my sense of ethics and right and wrong came with an off switch, but they don't, and I'm happy to say if you don't like that you can sod off because I am done being quiet. I spent decades not snapping back at people who are pushing bad opinions as fact just to fit in, I'm surely not alone in that, and loo...

If people think electricity and water bill hikes due to AI data centers are bad, wait until the chips to build desktop computers become unobtainable and everything, from work to gaming, has to be done through the cloud, with additional subscription required. 'Sorry guys, raytracing and DLSS 6 can't run locally on your Dell Cloudbox, better subscribe to nVidia to run games, but watch out for surge pricing if you plan to play with your friends after work!'

Managers believe AI is magic and can do the jobs of the people they manage, but have no idea how to make it do that, so need workers to constantly supervise and fix the output of a machine doing a worse job at the work that was already being done. All that has really been achieved is another layer of wealth extraction has been added by people who do nothing but make a number go up. Capitalism, y'all.

I do not for a moment believe that the recent assassination attempt on Trump was staged. That doesn't mean I cannot take pleasure in watching him be bitten by the conspiracy theorists that he courted during his rise to power. Lie with dogs, get fleas, lie with nutters or to nutters, get nutted.
