It&#39;s interesting spotting the biases of international tech companies as you engage with them. Airbnb is making a big deal of my apartment not having a carbon monoxide sensor. But we don&#39;t have any gas here so I&#39;ve never even considered that a problem.

Finally watched Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (Portrait of a Lady on Fire). A very sparse and beautiful romance that builds up to be an absolutely devastating and layered piece of art. It helps watching with an English Professor to peel them back afterwards. I really liked how the initial clandestine looks needed to paint the lady in question mirror and turn into a forbidden love story. The extremely economical use of music also makes it so powerful when it hits.

Tracey showed me pictures of her sports nephew and while the whole of American sports is like an alien world to me I definitely prefer the aesthetics of baseball to American football, it&#39;s so old-timey. You&#39;d still have to pay me to watch a game of it though.

Finding out through Connections that in the US &quot;Black and Tans&quot; refers to a drink and not a notoriously violent British paramilitary force in the Irish War of Independence. This has predictably resulted in a bunch of hilarious US corporate faux pas.

Seemingly every month we get an email warning us that there will be a test of the sprinkler system in the city offices. Which doesn&#39;t concern us as we don&#39;t work there. I assume they&#39;re just periodically getting soaked along with all the documents and electronics down there.

I watched it on stream yesterday and man, what a wasted episode. First of all Tasha Yar being killed so unceremoniously, at least make it the climax of the episode, and her a character who&#39;s potential was already being wasted (which is why the actor left). Armus being a creature of pure evil, thus making all the usual Star Trek moral dilemma stuff redundant and then a bizarre holodeck memorial praising the rest of the crew. Definitely one of the worst TNG episodes yet.
