#WordWeavers Dec 14: opposite of an opposite I already did, yesterday ; p But in case the code was too tough to crack, yes, it was a new years celebration. A 2 day long nonstop party full of drunken revelry, debauchery, salted meats, and sugary junk. It's the biggest event of the year, because it's essentially an informal contest to see who can make the most state-sponsored chaos in as short a time as possible. It's basically the purge, but with slightly less murder

#WordWeavers Dec 15: Random gifts or only on occasions? The main cast aren't really big on gift giving in general - their "love languages" tend to be more about physical presence/touch, and actions rather than trinkets. Tony is an exception, in that he doesn't feel comfortable around others, so gifts are much easier for him. Specifically, little handmade robots of varying utility. But just as a function of the setting being one where getting what you want is p...

#WordWeavers Dec 16: Charity In a sense, charitable giving is discouraged at all levels of governance. It is The Mayor's view that every citizen should be adequately supplied with all essentials at all times, and the existence of charity implies a fundamental failure in this regard. But that just means that charity is alive and well, but rebranded as "government goods distribution". As far as the main cast, all of them have made use of free clothes, food, and shelter...

#WordWeavers Dec 17: MC gifts a stranger? Depends on what part of the story she's in, but generally it's not her style. She sees gift giving as a transactional thing - either for a previous favour, or a favour yet to be asked. And even then, it's between close friends. She doesn't need to "bribe" or repay strangers. As her fame builds, she warms up to the idea as a means of buying further adoration from her fans

#WordWeavers Dec 18: SC's dream gift? Well if it's a "dream gift" though, it would also have to have emotional significance. So I propose something like a previously feared lost recording of his late mother. (contrary to popular belief, he doesn't typically enjoy getting robots as gifts - he strongly prefers home made ones) As for his reaction, he'd probably tear up, give a sincere thanks, and spend most of the day in his lab watching his mum&...

#WordWeavers Dec 19: MC is invited to a party One of the primary reasons Meg had for going to uni was to reignite her social spark. It didn't quite work out - while she was able to attend the occasional school organised event, or sneak into a few private parties, she could never maintain a consistent friend group. All this to say that if there's an invitation coming her way for almost any type of party, she's thrilled to receive it, and would go... perhaps a bit too har...

#WordWeavers Dec 20: Cast theme songs? Meg: pretty much any death metal or adjacent sub-genre. As long as it's aggressive, fast, and you have no idea what the singer is saying. Tony: "Styx - Mr. Roboto" seems like the obvious pick. Dr T: Something light classical, perhaps Rossini's "Thieving Magpie". Jez: being as she's essentially the fictional version of my wife, she'd listen to David Bowie. Viktor: Just nature sounds and...

#WordWeavers Dec 21: MC's significant name? She's barely named after herself! I'm still not 100% locked in on her full legal name, and have only been able to (sorta) commit as far as "Meg"... and even that's not guaranteed if I find something I like better. So no, she's not (yet) named after any significant figure in story canon. And I don't think it's something I'm going to actively pursue - her parents are the...

#WordWeavers Dec 22: Stargazing? Nope. They all live in the heart of unchecked urban sprawl, where the cluster of human life exudes an endless sickly glow into the night sky. Seeing anything closer than low flying aircraft would be a miracle. if it weren't also visible in the morning, people might be given to believe that the moon was a fairy tale. ... actually, maybe Viktor would, seeing as he's one of the privileged few with Wild Sector access, and thus actually able to see s...

#WordWeavers Dec 23: Where MC feels most at home? She would probably tell you "The Tower, duh", then make fun of you for asking an obvious question. But you might notice that answer seems a little flat. Sure, The Tower is comfortable and convenient, but it's not really "home". Her parents house comes close, but reconnecting with her family is an unattractive prospect for most of the story. So until that gets resolved, half-hearted answers are the be...

#WordWeavers Dec 24: MC as a plant There's a few aspects to consider: • Aesthetics. Meg can be quite pretty when she wants, but typically doesn't put a lot of effort in • Fragility. Some plants need lots of attention and specific bedding, much like Meg herself • Toxicity. She's... not a fantastic person for a while. Even at her best, she can be somewhat off-putting. With all these in mind, I suggest Meg would most likely be a type of Rafflesia, or "stinki...

#WordWeavers Dec 25: MC belief in an afterlife? Not really. While many of her aunts, uncles, and cousins are casual "Mayorites", which includes a resurrection cycle in its teachings, her parents had distanced themselves from the church before she was born. She's vaguely aware of resurrection as a concept, but finds the idea kind of dumb - who wants to be reborn as a agent of The Mayor anyway? Having had a near death experience, her views are of a much more final death...

#WordWeavers Dec 26: Media inspiration? Pretty much everything. I'm sure I've never had a single original thought in all my life - I'm just an aggregation of tv, video games, movies, books, webcomics, and various shitposts. I guess, in a sense, I try to look for works of a particular style rather than strict media. Works that explore the same kind of themes or characters I'm working on, so I can blatantly steal some of the better bits, but also try to avoid obvi...

#WordWeavers Dec 27: Antagonist family reunion? He have mixed feelings for sure - everyone he knew from his community growing up died many years ago. He holds a sentimentality for the *concept* of family, but as much as he yearns for the love and closeness of family, he still bitterly remembers being ostracised and almost killed when they found out he was gay. In the end, his hope would win over his anger, and he'd want to reconnect. Perhaps If only to show them how wrong they were?

#WordWeavers Dec 28: MC family reunion? Hell no. The rift between her and her patents is far too vast. It's quite possibly the least likely event she would want to attend, even after the full arc of the story and her journey of self improvement. It's a pity, since she has a few aunts, uncles, and cousins she remembers fondly. If it were just them... she consider it, but the risk of her parents showing up uninvited is too high. Or worse, a favourite relative reporting back to th...

#WordWeavers 29: Empathy for other species? I haven't decided to what extent it will matter, but friendly intelligent aliens are known to the average citizen. There's lots of mutual empathy and goodwill between the species. For the main cast specifically, Viktor has a great love and respect for the few remaining wild animals on Tenalus. Jez likes and empathises with domesticated animals, but doesn't regularly interact with wild critters. And Tony loves his robots like c...

#WordWeavers Dec 30 Antagonist and goodbyes? Sadly, he's had many years and opportunities to practice, and while it never gets easier, he's learned to adopt a approach to grieving that works well enough. You express what's in your heart, let your emotions take the metaphorical helm for a while, you take time to work through the pain, and you appreciate the positive impact their life had on yours. Still, as much as he's refined the process, he is still human and...

#WordWeavers Dec 31: Year end celebration? Yeah, I touched on it a few daily questions ago, but the official new years observation is much the same as it is in our reality. The main difference being that most stores are closed on the last day of the year, since people are sleeping in perpetration for staying up all through the night and through to lunch (~ish) the next day. Traditionally, a great feast of fatty meats is held, and in the morning, revellers gorge themselves on sugary cereal.
