  Been interested in trying out GUIX some time, I’ve been testing around with the X41 recently and I’ve attempted an install already but it failed for whatever reason, I’ll try it again. I’ve been interested in the idea of trying out Hurd on a machine properly, I know the X60 can, so I can probably do it on the T60. Oh well, probably need to get a bit more into understanding GUIX beforehand

  I’ll possibly do a deblobbed kernel install afterwards but to honest I was just testing it for the moment and didn’t want to compile the kernel myself - but I’ll slim it down a bit and hopefully get it a lot smoother and as libre as I can for one that can’t be given a free BIOS

  Sadly the X41 cannot be corebooted or librebooted but I will be doing a BIOS replacement on it hopefully to get rid of the whitelist for drives and WiFi-cards (though currently it has no WiFi card in it) It’s essentially maxxed out already at a GB of RAM so a libre WiFi card and possibly a refurbished battery is about the best I can do with it. I love the docking station that it comes with though, I keep it on 24/7 and it adds not too much weight to be honest.

  I’ve been working on my X41 ThinkPad and honestly it’s been doing a lot better than I originally thought it would! I’m using Gentoo x86 on it, it’s certainly slow but for a 32-bit system I’m pretty happy with it! Currently been compiling updating the world set for the last while - not got to Xorg yet, but I’m going to set up DWM on it hopefully and see how far I can push it to the limits.

  Still trying to figure out how to get my Huion Kamvas 13 Pro to get working on my laptop - I know Linux overall seems to have quite good support for Wacom over Huion but I'm cheap. Monitor is working - pen input however is still a work in progress...

  I swear can I actually find a Free Software and or FSF-inspired group that actually gives a shit for libre? Genuinely, I go in a Free Software group and I see AI chuds and people actively avoiding using Linux-libre or any libre software. Okay, no Libreboot/GNUboot? Sure, but not even attempting to use anything? Why are you even in it? It's not a Free Software group...   Man, Tuba (the GTK Gnome Mastodon Client) absolutely fucking sucks to use, Jesus, I really want to get Mastodon.el working again but it seems to be having problems with encyption... not really sure why, it seems like gnome-keyring is working? Or that might be something else? Honestly, I'm not too sure because it was working fine before but now it just... doesn't open correctly. Oh well, I'll find something...

  I’ve been attempting to use OpenBSD on an external hard drive stuck to the back of the lid on my T60, surprisingly works quite well since it’s using USB 1.0 OpenBSD is quite nice, I’ve always preferred it to FreeBSD and it generally seems to have a bit better hardware support over all from what I’ve experienced My only issue has been finding out that my libre wifi card, an Atheros AR9462 doesn’t have support for any drivers in the kernel.   Finally got my T500 Heatsink for my T60 ThinkPad, fits perfectly! Honestly, straight drop-in replacement! Runs a lot cooler now, very happy with it! Now, looking for a screen… I do want a screen upgrade, going all in for this one!

  Apparently Mullvad VPN's Co-CEO has donated to the Swedish Political Party - the Örebro Party, which is split from the Left Party and is basically National Socialists... (it's full of racists and Nazis, according to a local newspaper about the party) Just when I'd convinced most of my friends to switch, they pull this shit... I could ignore a political donation - I'd prefer they not do it, but I could ignore it if it was a "standard party" but it's a niche party...

  I've been thinking of possible doing a CompTIA course myself, because I'm not really able to find any work in tech myself at the moment and I know that they're very valuable to have. Self-studying isn't anything that I've been particualrly good at myself but I've not really gotten much else to do at the moment so it could be worth a shot, even just for a basic qualification in it. Has anyone else done that before or has a CompTIA qualification?

  Has Vim actually included AI-generated code or patches in their releases now? Or is that just something that people are saying for the sake of saying it, I know quite alot of people have been fairly worried with projects recently including AI-generated code and whatnot.   Trying to configure open tablet drivers is absolutely hell, I've compiled Krita and I've been wanting to try and do some drawing from my laptop instead of my desktop as it's a bit more mobile, I've got a Huion Kamvas 13 that's served me pretty well overall to be honest but I know that Huion generally has a bit more support overall on Linux if I'm not mistaken? Might have to consider that with my next purchase when I decide to upgrade, although they are alot more expensive...

  I really want to like alot of FSF distros, but honestly alot of them are pretty dead, some even straight up unusuable, and I don't mean in that I don't have the devices or anything to match the hardware that some of them require such as an alternative wifi-card with libre drivers and whatnot but they're just dead... like, practically no longer actively maintained.
