Clement, burning bright, emerges into the sun from beneath the sage, miaowing and smelling faintly of stuffing. #caturday #CatsOfMastodon

18 Jul: Asa Shorba Injera topped with Misr Wat, Beg Siga Wat, greens cooked like gomen #cooking #food #FoodDiary Ethiopian night. Fabulous fish soup to start; both punchy and mild - the kind of soup that feels like it's doing you good as you eat it. Misr Wat is a lovely spicy lentil stew and the Beg Siga Wat, a spiced lamb stew. Sadly, I totally messed up the injera, all of which stuck to the pan. I'd done the 24 hour ferment version, but unlike the last times I'v...

25 Jul: Smoked mackerel pate #cooking #food #FoodDiary Crisp mackerel skin and quick dill cucumber pickle. There was also miso and mustard pork loin with crushed potato and garlic greens, but after bringing the food outside and then having to move Clement from my seat to another one round the patio table before starting meant I forgot to take a pic. Ah well, seldom happens.

26 Jul: Roast lamb #cooking #food #FoodDiary Although it may not look like it from the photos, we're on a - continuing - effort to lose some of the weight that has slowly piled on over years of indulging in food and drink. Portions have been smaller and we've cut out some of the booze (while still drinking more than recommended...). My use of butter has probably been cut by three quarters and I've been sparing with other delicious things while trying to keep everythin...

30 Jul: Peppers stuffed with hake 'brandade' #cooking #food #FoodDiary A successful experiment. Based on the classic Spanish peppers stuffed with salt cod brandade. Blitzed the hake with olive oil and garlic, and stuffed inside small red peppers. Baked in tomato sauce (tin of toms, oil and smoked paprika mostly). Kept the skin to crisp of course. Next time might lightly poach or brine the fish first and add more oil, but pretty good for guesswork.

What a delight at King's Cross station this lunchtime. Some poor soul had been hit by a train near Stevenage so nothing was leaving. A large crowd stood staring at the departure boards with their flashing Delayed and Cancelled notices. Through this mass, most people slowly weaved through, but one obnoxious fucker marched at the crowd yelling 'excuse me' and expecting everyone to part red sea-like for him, and shouting when people didn't. What a self-important, a...

25 May: Gammon, white and green asparagus, Jersey Royals, Hollandaise sauce #cooking #food #FoodDiary Delightful as it is to eat outside, the light in the back garden in the evening is really not conducive to photos. May have to snap the food inside before taking it out.
