@SystemsAppr@discuss.systems one of the definitions I’ve seen for routers is not to separate networks but act as a responsibility barrier. Everything in an L3 switched domain belongs to “us” but everything on the other side of the router is “them”.
A bit more social/political than technical ;)

@nbailey@mstdn.ca @SystemsAppr@discuss.systems As I've tried to express elsewhere, we're probably just better off calling them "network elements" now, and describing traditional L2/L3 as per legacy OSI ISO labels that Padlipsky was so critical of in terms of their meaningful topological exchange only. When you've written a link-state protocol from the ground up, you see differently. Like how P2MP is an ideal fit for fixed-point free-space optics.
