@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world my automation was to install the fridge leaning a little back so door closes itself 😁 Also, I'm montoring the inside temperature.

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world turning on Bluetooth speaker in bath autoconnects it to iPhone which fires a Shortcut that turns on Do not disturb and Airplane mode, dims lights and plays relaxing music. Turning it off restores previous states. HA and Shortcuts.

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world Motion detector and led strip under the bed, so when I get out of bed in the middle of the night there’s automatically a floor level light

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world Or the humidity sensor in the tumble dryer that turns the kitchen lights blue when the clothes are dry

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world The best automation is one that doesn't depend on #HomeAssistant. I have a cheap, Chinese sensor that does this door-open warning, and I'd expect the automation system to disperse functionality rather than focus it.

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world my front-walkway person sensor plays a little "someone is approaching" sound which means my deliveries never spend very long on the front step.

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world If the weather forecast says it will freeze at night, I get a warning message that there will be frost at night. Unfortunately, even that did not save our small pepper plants in the greenhouse. You can still forget anyway.

@smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world I have 3 favorite home automations: 1. One that gently wakes me up with gradually increasing light before my alarm goes off. 2. One that turns off all the lights I forgot to turn off after I leave home. 3. One that detects when my laundry is finished and announces that "Cryptid X has escaped containment. Please arm all perimeter defences immediately." This makes people wonder what the hell is going on when I suddenly get up and leave the room (to put the laundry away before it wrinkles). #HomeAssistant @HomeAutomation
