I have 3 favorite home automations:
1. One that gently wakes me up with gradually increasing light before my alarm goes off.
2. One that turns off all the lights I forgot to turn off after I leave home.
3. One that detects when my laundry is finished and announces that "Cryptid X has escaped containment. Please arm all perimeter defences immediately." This makes people wonder what the hell is going on when I suddenly get up and leave the room (to put the laundry away before it wrinkles).

@Blort@social.tchncs.de @smarthomejunkie@mastodon.world I have the same three, though my laundry announcement is far less interesting. But it does have some rudimentary location awareness so it doesn't announce everywhere if there's a good sense of which areas of the house are occupied. Oh, and the ceiling fans turn off along with the lights.

Personally, I have one that starts the vacuum robot when no one is home and it's awesome. I have another one that makes the light dim after midnight but unfortunately I couldn't set that up for every room yet.
