Just ordered some strawberry plants. I feel a little guilty for spending money (I'm trying to expand the garden by collecting seeds/cuttings from nature or neighbours), but I guess they'll "pay" for themselves eventually. I went for white ones, ones that bloom pink, and some normal ones. I hope we'll be able to have a taste this summer 🤞 (If you have - unusual or not - strawberry experience, I'd love to hear it.) #gardening #strawberries

@EntangledPear@mastodon.social last year I asked for ideas about how to protect the strawberries from being eaten by animals, and there were some great answers in this thread: https://social.coop/@marsiposa/114478594223325193

@EntangledPear@mastodon.social strawberries in my experience are very tough plants. We still have a few left over that are descendants (via offshoots) from the plants we bought when we moved into here almost 20 years ago. These will last you a long time. Be prepared for an eternal battle against slugs though, if you have them in your garden. They are attracted to the fruit like crazy and the only way I've found to keep them at bay is by planting the strawberries into hanging pots. Good luck! 👍

@EntangledPear@mastodon.social I think it’s hard to tell when white strawberries are ripe. Good luck with the berry growing!
