One of the many fun parts of treating history as a dumpster into which I dive for fantasy tidbits, instead of a source of rules to be followed: Sometimes I'll come across reference to some historian who's been totally debunked, _utterly discredited_ by modern scholars for wrongheaded assertions about how something worked in ye olden tymes. I get SO excited to track that discredited work down and absorb it as a source. 😂 #TTRPG #WorldBuilding

@SJohnRoss terrible conclusions from historical explorers, scientists, and other luminaries about why something exists in the world are a beautifully rich vein. Taking those things and making them *true* or *even more wrong* are both fantastic. Phlogiston? Real! 4-element universe? You got the 4 wrong and the universe works fundamentally differently; it's still 4, though, just not the 4 you think. Geocentric astronomical model? You got it right. But what's outside the sphere, and what causes stars to twinkle?
