so, do you know of messengers that do not require you to own a smartphone but let you talk to people who do? I know of jabber/xmpp (not very normie-friendly). I wish, @signalapp would support accounts that are not bound to a phone number. then again, I also wish things were way more decentralized in general. what about @delta chat? as far as I know that one just uses email? the point is: I'm getting wary about the ubiquity of opaque computing devices and their services. how not to be a luddite?

@posiputt so you mean people being able to use their computer instead of their phone?

@posiputt @signalapp @delta Delta chat can be used also with just computer. No need to register anything (even with a phone, but also without).

@posiputt My vote would be for getting onto the Matrix platform, as it's decentralised, and people have written clients for both desktop and mobile, but pretty much has similar issues with getting normies onto the Fediverse (finding a home server, understanding how servers interact, encryption, etc etc)
