One of the reasons ThinkGeek&#39;s April Fools products worked so well is that we spent the entire month of March doing little else other than preparing for April 1. The majority of the joke products had physical prototypes. The photography was real, which is why they didn&#39;t look like photoshops. They weren’t. They were handcrafted. It wasn&#39;t something someone did on the afternoon of March 30th. You can&#39;t be epic unless you spend the time to do it right.

@uncanny_kate@dice.camp I loved the 4/1 Thinkgeek products. The zero-point energy extractor was my fav. The Tauntaun sleeping bag became REAL! Fake Ghostlike Photons! I still have my Thinkgeek TMA-1 Monolith Action Figure in its packaging. (ZERO Points of articulation!)

@uncanny_kate@dice.camp That’s awesome. Another reason they were great is that they weren’t annoying pranks. You usually didn’t need to research or debate for half a day whether they were true, and they weren’t something you ended up being disappointed it didn’t exist. That is, it was you laughing with us, not at us.
