You've heard of "America's Top Model". You've seen "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?". Now, I present to you: Are You Smarter than America's Top Model? A show, where regular genAI users have to count letters in "strawberry" without using their phones.

I’m running a session zero of Daggerheart tonight! It’s been a while since the last time an RPG system got me excited (and that was Forbidden Lands).

Governments: We need age attestation so minors can't view content meant for adults. Steam, Windows, macOS: Understood, we'll add "this account is a minor" to account options and when they're adult, their legal guardian can change their account type to a regular one. Linux: What if the init daemon told every app your precise moment of birth with microsecond resolution so you can view porn at exactly 1:07:23 in the morning, when you *technically* turn 18...

I can’t believe it’s 2026 and software engineers still think DRY is the most important principle. Stop recommending Clean Code. It’s not a good book, people just mistake Robert Martin being confident for him being right.

The internet regulators in general, and UK as a country specifically, continue to get everything absolutely backwards when it comes to age restrictions and age verification. The solution is *never* to have random sites you have no reason to trust be able to inspect your full government ID. The correct thing to do is for the government to provide a government-stamped slip that says "this person is over 18" that contains *no other identifying information*.

Friends, if you ever feel tempted to post a photo of your credit card online, don't. But if you have to, block sensitive information with either a fully opaque rectangle. Or cover it with a piece of physical media prior to taking the picture.

If you’re a laborer under capitalism, your income is directly proportional to the scarcity of workers with your particular skill level. This is why a surgeon makes more money than a street sweeper even if the city needs both to survive: it’s simply easier to train more people to sweep than to perform surgeries. When billionaires dream of a world of abundance, they do not mean food on your table, they mean an abundance of workforce. It means you are easier to replace (by a robot) and worth less.
